Ezekiel Chapter 27

  • Ezekiel 27:1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
  • 2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;
  • 3 And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.

Tyre was rich, and a city of trade because of its location. They had the best of everything. Today we would probably be taking vacations there like many other places in the world we consider vacation spots and resorts. This was the place to go in those days. Yet they were brought down and brought to nothing.

People today do not see that we are in the hands of a merciful God. At His word, we stand or at His word we fall.

Do we not understand that without God's hand of protection the enemies of our nation have more power. The less of God we have the more power the enemy has to destroy our country. I don't care how rich and powerful we think we are, at His word we stand and at His word we fall.

Tyre thought they were so great at one time but they rejoiced at the destruction of Jerusalem and it wasn't long until they too was destroyed.

People today have eyes to see but they are so blind to their spiritual condition. They just do not see what they are doing as sin.

  • Ezekiel 27:4 Thy borders are in the midst of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty.
  • 5 They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.
  • 6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim.

Chittim referred to are islands of the Greeks in the Mediterranean.

  • Ezekiel 27:7 Fine linen with embroidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered thee.
  • 8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.
  • 9 The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy caulkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise.

The economy was great, trade was good. Merchants lived the life of luxury. The wise men mentioned here just may mean that they were highly educated or the wise men could refer to divination and star gazing type of thing.

  • Ezekiel 27:10 They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.
  • 11 The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.

Tyrus being perfect in beauty is similar to Lucifer who was perfect in beauty but very wicked. He was exalted in himself and desired to overthrow the plan of God for the salvation of the world.

Those that are deceived today and blind to the works of God do not realize that they are deceived by Satan himself and on their way to destruction.

Little did this small island know that their beauty would not last and their riches would not save them.

  • Ezekiel 27:12 Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.
  • 13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market.
  • 14 They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.
  • 15 The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and ebony.

They not only got rich by trade but made others rich. Unfortunately one draw back to being rich is that there is always someone or some other nation or country who envies the wealth and will try to steal it by conquest.

Our treasure should be laid up in heaven where no one can every rob or steal it from us. We need to cast our lot with the Lord and trust only in Him for He is the author of life eternal and the things that count. This life is so temporary. Just as this rich city thought they would survive forever and gloated in the misfortune of Israel, we too think the United States is going to last forever while we continue to defy God and cast out His commandments from the public arena in the name of separation of church and state.

While I too believe in what the founding fathers originally meant by the first amendment guaranteeing freedom of religion, the term separation of church and state, was not part of the constitution but a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a group of Baptists. What they interpret it to mean in today's world does not even resemble what the writers of the constitution had in mind.

By casting out God, we seal our own doom for without Him we have no protection from those that want to destroy us. The United States has enemies just as Israel has. Without God as our protection, the enemies will have more power.

  • Ezekiel 27:16 Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and embroidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate.
  • 17 Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.
  • 18 Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.
  • 19 Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market.
  • 20 Dedan was thy merchant in precious clothes for chariots.
  • 21 Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they thy merchants.
  • 22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.
  • 23 Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were thy merchants.
  • 24 These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and embroidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of ce
  • 25 The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.
  • 26 Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.
  • 27 Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy caulkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
  • 28 The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.
  • 29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;
  • 30 And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:
  • 31 And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.
  • 32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?
  • 33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.

This description sounds like Babylon mentioned in Revelation and like the United States today. We are rich and increased with goods but always complaining that we are not rich enough. We trade with all countries of the world.

As long as the United States feared God and allowed its children to learn of Him, there is no nation in the world that could defeat us.

Remember the story of Balaam when the king of Moab sought Balaam to curse Israel so he (the king of Moab) could then defeat Israel. As long as God protected Israel, Balaam could not curse Israel. As long as Israel was not cursed and was right with God, no nation, great or small could come against her.

So Balaam and the king of Moab figured out a way to get God Himself to curse Israel and withdraw His protection. They sought to send in beautiful women of Moab to entice Israel's young men into fornication and then into worshipping the gods of Moab. This would cause the real God of Israel to withdraw His protection and Moab could win victory over Israel.

This has happened in the United States. No nation was powerful enough to defeat us. We became rich and the most powerful nation in the world. We were once protected by God.

The enemy didn't have to get a Balaam to curse us, all he had to do we entice us into fornication and to cast God out of our schools and public institutions.

There is still enough praying people in this country that kept 9/11 from being worse than it was but if this country would not have cast God out, 9/11 would not have occurred at all. God's hand of protection isn't as strong among us as it once was. They cast Him out.

Am I saying that God caused it and sent those men to destroy the towers? No. but He could have stopped them.

Why should He protect us? We ignore His commandments and allow the ACLU lawsuits work to tear the commandments off our courthouses. We ignore the word and cast it out of our schools. We do not allow the teaching of God's word but we allow fables, stories, witchcraft and other things to be taught to them. Many seek to protect the free speech of pornography, profanity and sexual immorality but they fight against the name above all names and the king above all kings and call it separation of church and state.

Children cannot learn of God in schools but they can learn how to have an abortion. Creation science is considered evil and evolution is considered as truth when it is actually only a theory. Now we have mocked God's plan for marriage and the Supreme Court has allowed men to marry men and women to marry women. The latest craziness is a move to allow men to use women's public rest rooms in the deceptive name of being inclusive. That sounds nice and fair but it opens the door to sexual predators to attack women out of the public eye. I'm sure security cameras are not allowed in restrooms. This is similar to the phrase "A woman's right to choose," that deceived us into thinking abortion is a good thing instead of the murder it really is. We have cast God out because we have been deceived into believing a lie. That lie will eventually destroy us. It's even worse now as they want to allow gender surgeries and homone treatments to change the gender of children but it doesn't do that, it ruins them for life.

  • Ezekiel 27:34 In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.
  • 35 All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.
  • 36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.

Is the destruction of Tyre what is going to happen to us? They thought it could never happen. They saw Israel destroyed and thought, this will never happen to us. We have too much, we are rich, we are powerful and they gloated in their beauty only to be brought down by Babylon.

Babylon is already destroying us from within. Is the day coming when they can destroy us from without as well?

God made a way for us to have salvation and eternal life. That way is being mocked at and the name of Jesus has been ruled unconstitutional claiming that we have to be fair and allow diversity. Yet only Jesus is cast out while all other religions can be talked of and all other deities can be mentioned while the name of Jesus is the only name that is not allowed to be spoken of in public schools at least by the teacher. She or he can teach anything they want as long as the bible and Jesus is not taught.

God allowed His Son to come and die for our sins so that when we believe in Jesus and partake of His holiness by faith, we can inherit eternal life and have our sins removed so that we can come into the presence of a holy righteous God. We throw this out and prefer religions that allow us to sin and still be religious.

We choose death over eternal life and destruction over salvation. We are doing the exact same thing that led to the destruction of all nations before us that defied God and thought they were okay. They rejected the truth and bought into the lie of false religion, idolatry and all the filth that went with it, only to end up destroyed and cast down.

Will the United States escape judgment also? Our courts have cast out God, removed His commandments, ruled against the bible, allowed the legal murder of the unborn, allowed a husband to kill his own wife by starvation when the woman's mother pleaded to be allowed to take care of her own daughter. (Since I originally wrote this study, we now in 2024 have legalized infanticide in some states where an unwanted baby can be left to die if the parents decide not to have it, some harvest body parts from them. The cells are used in vaccines. Some are fighting to legalize pedophilia saying its just another sexual orientation, and human trafficking is rampant. We also have those that want to have operations to change their gender as I mentioned above.)

We may be too sophisticated to worship statues but we worship the god of pleasure and convenience thinking there is no God that does not see and will not bring judgment.
