Isaiah Chapter 62

  • Isaiah 62:1 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

This is great, is it not? God will not rest until He brings salvation and righteousness to Jerusalem. For some reason Zion and the area of Jerusalem is the place where the very heart of God longs to make holy and righteousness. Someday we will know why and will understand. Salvation is to go forth as a burning lamp and righteousness as brightness.

  • Isaiah 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

Jerusalem shall have a new name given to them by God himself. Gentiles shall see the righteousness and glory that comes to Jerusalem. The whole world will be effected by this remarkable change in the Middle East.

  • Isaiah 62:3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

Jerusalem will be where the throne of the Messiah resides. Christ will rule and reign from Jerusalem and shall rule the whole world. He will come back literally to rule, from the clouds of heaven. He will not be a person already here but as lightning shines out of heaven, He will return bringing with Him those He previously had taken by way of the rapture. If any arises from an earthly person and says He is Christ, it is a false one.

Christ already came the 1st time as a person born of a woman. God became a man to make an offering for sin. The second time He comes will be to set up His kingdom after He first takes out of the earth His faithful believers, then pours out His wrath upon those that harmed His people.

  • Isaiah 62:4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.

An unmarried lady used to be considered desolate. If she was childless she was also considered desolate. The land of Jerusalem will be as a married woman, very well taken care of and blessed.

  • Isaiah 62:5 For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.
  • 6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence.
  • 7 And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

The Lord watches over Jerusalem. People might fight over Jerusalem and war continually but in the end those to whom the Lord chooses will possess it. Those who love the Lord and follow His ways will possess it. The saints of God will inhabit Jerusalem. (Saints being those who have received Jesus Christ as Lord and savior) These will be believing Jews as well as Gentiles who became adopted into Israel by faith in Christ.

  • Isaiah 62:8 The LORD hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:

No longer will the armies of the earth tread down Jerusalem. Enemies of Israel will not trample under foot the holy city when Christ comes to rule and reign.

  • Isaiah 62:9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.
  • 10 Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.
  • 11 Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

Jesus Christ returns to establish his throne in Jerusalem set up His righteous kingdom and give rewards to those whom are faithful.

  • Isaiah 62:12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

This is a time when Israel is brought back to God. They discover who their true Messiah is. (This is Jesus Christ, the one who was rejected by their forefathers). They will be saved and redeemed from the earth. They will become a blessed city. This is the beginning of the true and only peace on the earth.
