Psalm Chapter 64

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

  • Psalm 64:1  Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

David called on God in times of trouble and worshipped Him in song and psalm in times of peace. God was his first source in time of trouble.

  • Psalm 64:2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:

He desired to walk in righteousness and not follow after the wicked. Yet we see from his prayers that he realized that he was weak in the flesh and couldn't resist the powers of wickedness in his own strength. That is why he continually cries out to God for strength against workers of iniquity.

It is not easy to stand up against those who desire evil. Sometimes we are in a crowd of people who are against God and the ways of God. We live in a world today that it seems that wickedness is prevailing on every side and it may seem that we are alone in our stand for righteousness. Yet we know that the Spirit of God is available to all who are in need of God's help. All He wants us to do is believe that He cares about each and every individual and that He wants each and every individual to be saved and inherit eternal life.

He desires even more than that. He desires that we trust Him for everything and wait on Him continually. In other words, He doesn't just promise us eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ but He desires that we learn to walk in His Spirit and have fellowship with Him daily. We don't have to wait until we enter Heaven to have God's presence with us on a daily basis. He is here and ready for us to walk with Him.

Sin separates us from God so if we are still walking in sin and desire to be free from sin, we repent and turn to Jesus Christ. He then forgives the sin and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. The Holy Spirit will come then and abide with us continually. We are never alone. We need to share this message so others believe also and we need to desire that no one be lost on our watch if we possibly can help it.

  • Psalm 64:3 Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
  • 4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

Enemies of righteousness continually try to bring down those that live for God and love God's word. With the help of the Holy Spirit we do not have to yield to the temptations they bring our way.

  • Psalm 64:5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?
  • 6 They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.

They look to every fault and try to find a flaw to report to others. The devil also tries to trip us up and looks for every weakness in us. In ourselves we have no power to overcome any weakness. This is when we have to just turn everything over to the Lord and say, "Lord I trust you to deliver me, I love you and do not want to give in to sin." "Save me and keep me near to you."

  • Psalm 64:7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.

Anti God people usually look for every fault and mistake a person of God may make. They seek to bring down a ministry that is winning souls for Jesus but God will prevail and bring their destructive ways to an end.

  • Psalm 64:8 So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
  • 9 And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
  • 10 The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

This is why we sing and speak praises to the Lord. To show our thanksgiving and to honor Him with glory. If we started early in the morning and continued in the night, we could never praise the Lord enough for the price Jesus Christ paid for our salvation.
