1 Chronicles Chapter 14
David's Wives and Children
- 1Chronicles 14:1 Now
Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of
cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
- 2 And David
perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for
his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people
Israel.
God really blesses those that are
faithful to Him and recognizes His promises to Abraham. He also
blesses those that bless Israel and curses those that curse Israel.
Some among the nations and people may not like that but His word is secure and forever.
- Genesis 12:1 Now
the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and
from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that
I will shew thee:
- 2 And I will
make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy
name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
- 3 And I will
bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and
in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Jesus is the savior, the Son of God,
the one who died for sins, the one who was resurrected after He was
crucified by wicked hands. He was the one God sent to save us from our
sins. He is the only way of salvation. He was born through
Mary and became human through the seed of Abraham.
That is how it is that the families of
the whole earth shall be blessed through the seed of Abraham. We
must remember this. No true congregation, church or true believer in
Jesus will ever persecute or be unkind to Israel. No matter
who claimed to be the church and believers in Jesus throughout
history, if they persecuted the Jewish people, they are not true
believers in Jesus. No religion that uses force is a true religion.
To receive Jesus must always be by our own personal choice. No way
can being born again by the Spirit of God be forced upon anyone. God
wants us to come to Him willingly. He doesn't want puppets but those
willing to come to Him by faith.
- 1Chronicles 14:3 And
David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons
and daughters.
- 4 Now these are the
names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and
Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
Jesus came through the line of David
through Nathan. His step father, Joseph was from the line of
Solomon. Mary the mother of Jesus came from Nathan and Joseph her
husband came from Solomon which qualified Jesus to be king over all
Israel. This literally will happen at His second coming. He will be
king over all the earth. He is coming again.
- 1 Chronicles 14:5
And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
- 6 And Nogah, and
Nepheg, and Japhia,
- 7 And Elishama, and
Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
Philistines Defeated
- 1Chronicles 14:8 And
when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all
Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David
heard of it, and went out against them.
- 9 And the
Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of
Rephaim.
The valley of Rephaim was known as the valley of
the giants.
- 1Chronicles 14:10
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the
Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the
LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine
hand.
- 11 So they came up
to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God
hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking
forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place
Baalperazim.
David did the right thing by inquiring
of God whether to go and fight against the Philistines. We would all
do well to inquire and seek after God when making important
decisions. Especially if it involves the lives and well being of
others.
Idolatry is a slap in the face of God
who created us and gave us life. Yes, those things should be burned
in the fire. I never could understand any religion that bows before
graven images.
- Exodus 20:1 And
God spake all these words, saying,
- 2 I am the LORD
thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out
of the house of bondage.
- 3 Thou shalt
have no other gods before me.
- 4 Thou shalt not
make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing
that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or
that is in the water under the earth:
- 5 Thou shalt not
bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God
am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the
children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate
me;
- 6 And shewing
mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my
commandments.
We are not even supposed to bow down to
them if they represent God, Jesus, Mary or any saint. Why any
religion does that puzzles me. We can know the real living God, why
worship a subsitute when we have access to the real God through our
faith in Jesus, God's Son.
- 1Chronicles 14:13
And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the
valley.
- 14 Therefore David
enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after
them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the
mulberry trees.
- 15 And it shall be,
when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God
is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
- 16 David therefore
did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the
Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
- 17 And the fame of
David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of
him upon all nations.
The Philistines didn't give up but
gathered together a bigger army and tried again. David again
inquired of God and smote the Philistines. If God is on the side of
anyone in battle, the battle is lost before it begins. We can't
fight against the power and will of God.
This account in the life of David is also recorded in 2 Samuel
chapter 5.
