Isaiah Chapter 18

  • Isaiah 18:1 Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

There have been some that believe this passage is speaking of the United States but according to Finis Jennings Dake in his commentaries on the bible, there is no scripture that has a direct reference to the United States and should not be interpreted as such. Dake believes that this is speaking of the actual nation of Ethiopia and foretells its judgment. Yet, I wonder. There are believers in that country.

  • Isaiah 18:2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

Apparently it looks as if this nation is one of the nations that come against Israel in the latter days. No matter what nation this is, we can take heed that we be not part of any nation who comes up against Israel. I realize that I may or may not agree with everything Israel does but we have to recognize the fact that Jerusalem has a future part of bible prophecy. Jesus Christ will rule the whole world from the capital of Jerusalem whether the whole world likes it or not. Some will try to come against Jerusalem in the latter days but they will be defeated. To be safe just don't join in any army that decides to go up against the land of Israel. That land was promised to Abraham years ago and when God makes a promise, man cannot do anything to change it. God has a purpose for Israel and His promise cannot be broken. I didn't say this; It is written in the bible. Destroying or changing bibles will never destroy the original word from the mind of God.

  • Isaiah 18:3 All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.

The entire world will see this and know what is happening. This is a hint to the modern day communication technology that will enable the entire world to see what happens in Israel.

Remember the verse that says, "Every eye shall see Him."

  • Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
  • 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
  • 7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

I used to wonder until I thought of modern television and satellite orbits how every eye could possibly see Him at His coming. Now we know. Of course we must remember too that the word, "every" and "all" does not always refer to every individual person in the world. Sometimes we use the word, "all" to only mean a few. Like, "The whole city gathered at the fireworks display." We know of course that not every single individual shows up at every event. The word "all" and "every" is used to mean a great number.

They also that pierced him, has to mean the descendants of those that pierced Jesus Christ. They are to wail. What would cause wailing? - Deep remorse and repentance that their forefathers had crucified the very Son of God, Jesus Christ.

This will be a time of great cleansing and restoration back to God.

Isn't it great that we don't have to wait until that time. We have the word, the Holy Spirit and the privilege to get right with God right now. By confessing our sins and coming to Jesus Christ by faith, we become born again by the Spirit and the kingdom of God enters our hearts immediately. We still will be part of the future literal kingdom of God but the kingdom of God will dwell in our hearts by faith until that day. So very true.

  • Isaiah 18:4 For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.
  • 5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.
  • 6 They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.

This speaks of the defeat of Ethiopia and any nation that comes against Israel. The remains of the destruction will be left to the wild animals.

  • Isaiah 18:7 In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion.

This is prophecy of the restoration of Israel and a gathering of people that have been scattered all over the face of the earth. Believe it or not a peace is coming to the Israel and to the earth in the reign of Jesus Christ. There will be some trying to bring this about now but it will fail. True peace and salvation will only come at the literal coming of Jesus Christ himself. DC

  • Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
