Jeremiah Chapter 30
It seems here that this prophecy of Jeremiah may have a double meaning. The women were surely in travail and troubled in the time of Jeremiah and the captivity of Babylon but we also see that there is mentioned a time of Jacob's trouble. This may refer to the future great tribulation in the end just before Christ's return and also even before that when they lost their nation in 70 AD. as we shall see as we study further.
We know that in the time when Israel returned home after the Medes and Persians destroyed Babylon, Israel later came under their authority, then Greece and then they came under Roman authority. During the time of Christ the Roman Empire was in control. After a time around 70 AD the Roman army destroyed the temple that was rebuilt after their return from captivity. So we see that verse 8 had not yet come to pass fully as of that time. We now see Israel again returned to their own land in 1948 but with wars and trouble almost every day so the time of Jacob's trouble is not yet over.
We know that this has not happened as yet. Actually this David here is probably the Messiah, Son of David, prince of peace, the Lord Jesus Christ at His return. I have heard some teach that the actual David in his resurrected body will reign under Christ but some, maybe most believe this is referring to Jesus Christ Himself. Bible prophecy is fascinating to study if we keep seeking with a heart that wants truth and understanding and be willing to change our minds if we get it wrong once in a while. Scientists should be the same way. Instead of trying to prove what is already in their mindset and try to put forth their own agenda or interpretation, they should always seek to prove what is truth. That is a real scientist. One that can say, "We might have been wrong about that, this takes further study." Once we get an agenda and a stubborn attitude that wants to prove ourselves right and not admit we were wrong about something, our eyes get blinded to the truth. Hopefully we can always seek truth because we want to know what God says, not to try to get by with sin, look good to others around us, or just believe what we want to believe without admitting we could be mistaken.
We may not understand exactly how God will bring this to pass and how events will happen perfectly but we do know that God knows what He is doing and this word will come to pass. Israel will one day dwell in peace from all enemies. This is a promise of God from way back. We can see from recent news that this cannot have come to pass yet and did not yet come to pass in fully in 1948 but is yet future for they are not yet dwelling in peace.
Judah and Israel were punished and is still to receive correction for their rejection of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. It says here that even if God were to destroy all other nations that Israel was scattered to, God will not destroy Israel. Actually Israel is the only nation that is actually promised to survive all future tribulation and war. Other nations need to tremble at this and be reminded that their future depends on their own obedience to God's word.
God allowed all these things to happen to Israel because of sin. If Israel, God's chosen people were punished because of sin and constant failure to repent and turn to God, how much more will He punish other nations who sin. We must not be high-minded but fear God. This is no time for any nation to be full of pride and think they are above the judgment or correction of God. I see the days of hardheadedness getting worse. More and more, the preachers who preach against sin are mocked and ridiculed. In the United States those that preach truth are spoken evil of and those that lead people to do evil are counted as the good guys. I live in a time when people are striving to ignore the way God created us and desire really strange things never heard of before. Some want to force pastors to marry couples that are either two men or two women, some want to have operations to change their gender, and who knows what is coming next if we don't change our ways. I've read articles that are really getting weird. A father marrying his son. We really need to study God's word diligently to learn what is good for us and not what will destroy our lives and our very souls. If this trend continues, in time we will see forced rape allowed, marrying animals and many such strange things that will bring in God's judgment, first in the form of disease as a warning but later the whole nation will be destroyed. God never allows this evil to continue but gives us space to repent. I just read the other day about someone saying that we need to teach children to enjoy sex with an adult. I wanted to throw up. When we go this far in our thinking without repenting, I know for sure that God is not going to sit by put up with that much longer. No nation that destroys children survives in the long run. It is a time of great sorrow. To allow this is to ignore God's word and allow great sin to destroy our nation. Those who read this may very well accuse me of hate mongering. If they could only see my heart though they would know that I do not hate them. I just am able to see the end result if they do not change and repent. They think this stuff is liberty and freedom but it will bring us into bondage. Already there are over two million women, children and even men that are victims of human trafficking. As the 1st chapter of Romans describes, our minds are becoming reprobate. Once we start denying God as creator and denying His right to govern our lives, then our minds become reprobate. Once innocent children become the victims it isn't long before God destroys the nation that is allowing these things. We already have abortion which is legalized murder. One might say, all these things are just for consenting adults. Wrong. That is where it starts but it won't be long until it will be legal to rape a child. We already have pedophilia rings and it is even rumored that some high government officials are involved in these things. They will not escape the judgment of God if this is true. To be in authority in high positions is a great responsibility and all who abuse their power will face almighty God if they oppress the innocent. I don't want to just pick on them though. Look at the increased divorce rate among Christians. This is sin also. God hates divorce. He said so in Malachi. Whom God joins together, man is not to put asunder. We can't just decide we want someone else because we find fault in our wives (husbands). It harms the children so bad that it hurts them for the rest of their lives. Most of them grow up to do the same things. I will add here that people can repent, come to Jesus and be cleansed from all these sins. If they do not allow God to forgive them this wickedness and allow the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse their sin, I see eternity in hell for them and all those who ignore God. I see eternity in hell for those who mock, and ignore what God has said. I see eternity in hell for those who reject the precious Son of God, Jesus Christ and ignore the plan of salvation God made for all the human race. If only I could get it across to anyone who would listen, it is not those that warn against sin that are the hate mongers. Jeremiah did not hate. He risked his life and his reputation to tell the truth. Instead the hate mongers were those who hated him because he dared to believe God and warn them to repent and turn back to God. It's not those who are trying to save the lost that are hate-mongers but those that hate the ones who are trying to turn the lost from sin and to Jesus Christ. Who are the real hate-mongers? If a parent sees it's child ready to slip and fall into a deep hole, will he not cry out and stop that child. Is it hate to yell and scream at a child to keep him from falling into that pit? The only way to stop sin though is by the power of God that changes the life from the inside out. We cannot do this by force or legislation. We cannot legislate against sin. We must make laws to protect innocent victims especially women and children, but we cannot intimidate and use force in religion. I will add here that a true child of God should never mock, make fun of, ridicule or physically harm anyone. You bring reproach upon the cause of Christ when you mistreat any person. You can't win a person to Christ with force, cruelty or any method other than preaching the gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit. A person cannot be saved from sin against his or her will. Trying to force someone to be a Christian is like trying to force a dog to be a cat. It can't be done. A Christian becomes a Christian when he or she is born again by the Spirit of God. Man cannot do it. It is done by the power of God after someone exercises faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a spiritual event. Nothing a man or woman can say or do can bring save a soul, only God can do that. To try to win converts by force is just adding more converts to the increasing religious deception that is already in the world. We don't need converts to a religion whether we call it Christianity or another name. We need to see people brought to Christ by the power of God and saved from sin. True conversion is a radical change by the Holy Spirit, not by the religion of man.
All those that persecute Israel will be judged by God very severely. Those that devour Israel shall be devoured. Does Babylonian, Media-Persian, Grecian and the Roman Empire exist today?? Does the Nazi Regime exist today? Future persecutors may arise but they too will go the way of all others. They will not prevail, not because Israel is without sin but because it is the plan of God. God still plans to bring Israel back to Himself after they finally recognize their Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Why would we not want them restored and well? Why would we not want the whole world to be saved and restored back to God? Why do people get angry when we want good for them? Why do people get angry when we tell them they can have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ? Why do we want to hate anyone? Why do we want to take someone's life who disagrees with us? Why do some bomb little children, buses and hurt innocent people? Why is there not peace? It is so bad that only the power of God can heal it. We don't understand all these things and all this death we read about in the papers but we know that it will end. It will end when sin is destroyed and Jesus comes back to rule the earth. Even so come Lord Jesus.
Although Israel is prospering at this present time, the time of this prophecy could not be fulfilled yet because they are not as rest from war and they have not yet received Jesus Christ as a nation. There have been a few Messianic Jews but the nation of Israel still do not believe. The day is coming though when God will be the God of Israel again. That day will be such as rejoicing, as we have never seen.
Judgment will come to all nations who sin and turn its inhabitants away from God and the savior Jesus Christ. From Genesis to Revelation there is warnings and pleadings for men to repent and turn to God. To those that accuse negative preachers of legalism and being too negative, the bible is full of negative preaching. Jesus had many negative things to say. Jesus warned against rejecting Him as savior and not repenting of sin. Although He speaks comfortably to those who believe in Him, He has much warning against those who reject the beautiful gospel that offers eternal life. Words of Jesus:
If we do not believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the one sent from God to save men from their sins, then we have rejected the only way to be saved. If we do not repent and allow Jesus to take away our sins, then we shall die in our sins. He was punished for our sins even though He did not sin and did not deserve to die for sin. If we reject Him, His payment for our sins will not count on our behalf. We have to believe in Him in order for His sacrifice to count for us. We have to believe to receive God's gift of eternal life. If a rich man was to offer a 100 dollars to every one who came to get it, it would do no one any good unless they first believed in his offer and went to accept it. The same is true with Jesus Christ. It does us no good unless we believe and receive Jesus Christ. After we believe He sends us the Holy Spirit to abide with us. Old things pass away and all things become new. The old sin is forgiven and we now desire to live for God and not serve sin. I don't care if you don't sin any big sins or if you have sinned great sins, the sin has to be forsaken and repented of. God's power can deliver you from any sin. The biggest sin though is unbelief because without faith you can't receive the forgiveness or the freedom from sin. DC The first step to God is just believe:
Once we believe and come to the Lord it influences others who see how we live and what we believe.
