Jeremiah Chapter 48

• Jeremiah 48:1 Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed. 
• 2 There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee. 
• 3 A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction. 
• 4 Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard. 
• 5 For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction. 
• 6 Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness. 
• 7 For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together. 

Moab was the nation that was used of Balaam to get Israel to sin. It was the king of Moab who at one time wanted God to curse Israel and he even hired Balaam to do it. Balaam couldn't curse Israel so he conceived a plan for the Moabite women to seduce the men of Israel and make marriages with them. 

Moab worshiped idols they seduced Israel into forsaking God and worshiping the idols of Moab.

Because Moab was a kin to Abraham through Lot, Israel was not allowed to destroy the Moabites like they did other nations. God, however allows the Chaldeans to wipe all of them out and even brings a curse upon those that would spare Moab.

Their sins are finally being judged. They even become ashamed of Chemosh which was their idol. They realized this idol has no power to save them from the Chaldeans. No nation will get away with idolatry

• Jeremiah 48:8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken. 
• 9 Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein. 
• 10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood. 
• 11 Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed. 
• 12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles. 
• 13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence. 
• 14 How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war? 
• 15 Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. 
• 16 The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast. 
• 17 All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod! 
• 18 Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds. 
• 19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done? 
• 20 Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled, 
• 21 And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath, 
• 22 And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Bethdiblathaim, 
• 23 And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmeon, 
• 24 And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near. 
• 25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD. 
• 26 Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. 

Moab was lifted up in pride and boasted against God and probably thought He would keep on ignoring it. We think that today. We think we are okay and can keep on ignoring God and His word, thinking that it really doesn't matter. If we could only see how important God's word really is. 

If we could see with God's eyes we would see things a whole lot differently. The United States, its judges, Congress and many others have done as Moab and have magnified themselves against the Lord. That means that in spite of what God says they do what they desire. They do not care what God says. God has been thrown completely out of the government. Now the beautiful story of the creation is forbidden and substituted with the lie of evolution. That was only the beginning. 

The fear of God began to wan. A few years after evolution gain popularity, we threw all bible reading and prayer out of public schools.  About 10 years after throwing God out, we had abortion come in like a flood. Now our government allows the murder of innocent children that were still in the womb of the mother. It wasn't long until a baby could legally be killed up in the 9th month just before leaving the womb of its mother. If this isn't murder, I don't know what is? Since I first wrote this lesson, there are some governors that have allowed clinics in their state to allow a baby to die if born alive in a botched abortion or if the mother does not want the child. Some clinics harvest organs from the babies and encourage them to be born alive to do so. Tissue from aborted babies are used in many vaccines.

Sexual immorality soon followed and if not stopped will cause the certain death of any nation.  Now we have same sex marriage legalized. As I write this today some are starting to push for the legalization of polygamy and pedophilia. If the Lord tarries this will happen. 

I believe God has allowed the United States to exist only because we have stood by Israel (which is changing) and because there still are many true believers abiding in this nation. 

• Jeremiah 48:27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.

When God judges a nation for their sin, the worst thing for anyone to do is mock and enjoy seeing a nation destroyed. Especially if that nation is Israel. Moab wanted God to destroy Israel. Do not rejoice when others suffer. God will judge us also if we do that. Never gloat over another person's sorrow. Never rejoice when a person dies even if the person was evil. We must fear God and stay humble before Him always sorrowing if a sinner is lost and on his way to hell. 

• Jeremiah 48:28 O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole's mouth. 
• 29 We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart. 
• 30 I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it. 
• 31 Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kirheres. 
• 32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage. 
• 33 And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting. 
• 34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate. 
• 35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods. Their idolatry will cease. Their pride will result in their fall.
• 36 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished. 
• 37 For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth. 
• 38 There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD. 
• 39 They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him. 
• 40 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab. 
• 41 Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. 
• 42 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.

Again God explains why Moab is destroyed. Because they magnified themselves against the Lord.  Pride also was their downfall. Should we not fear in the United States because this is where we are headed if we do not turn back to God. I'm not talking about church and state uniting. That brings nothing but the wrong kind of power and unity. I'm talking about the whole nation repenting of their sin and turning back to God in their hearts. This is done by the Holy Spirit, not by force.

It is a willing repentance from individuals who seek the Lord that causes true salvation. The government's part is to not hinder or suppress the preaching of the gospel and the free worship no matter where it takes place.

Pride is the sin that leads to other sins that steal, kill and destroy. Why? Because pride keeps us from repenting and seeing our need for God. 

• Jeremiah 48:43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD. 
• 44 He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD. 
• 45 They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones. 
• 46 Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives. 
• 47 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.

The hope here is that Moab is to be part of the restoration in the latter days. This is Old Testament prophecy. Most of these events took place at the time of Babylon in the days of Jeremiah. Jeremiah was a prophet sent to warn the people of what was to come. In the beginning of Jeremiah's ministry, the people of Judah had a chance to repent and thus avoid the judgment of God.

The complete fulfillment of this prophecy is yet to occur. Sometimes prophecy is a pattern of immediate fulfillment and latter day fulfillment.

In today's world we see the same things going on as in the days of Jeremiah. Surely if God judged them, He will judge all those who do the same things. Today we are without any excuse for sinning against God. We have much more preachers and teachers of the word of God than ever before in history.

We have the written word of God in every bookstore. The Gideon's and other organizations give them away for free. Since Jeremiah's time, God sent His only Son into the world to bear the iniquity for all our sins. He showed us all how to be saved from the wrath to come by believing in the sacrifice of the Son of God, Jesus who came to make the way of salvation possible for all who believe. He showed us how to receive eternal life so that we no longer have to fear death.

When God has given us so much, we are now without excuse for continually rejecting Jesus Christ and ignoring God's word. Surely, as judgment came to Moab, Babylon, Israel, Judah, Egypt, and other nations who rejected God and did evil in His sight, judgment will also come to all nations who know not God.

Just as Moab magnified itself against God, we see many that do that very thing today. All nations and leaders of nations that persecute or hurt any true believer in Jesus Christ will come under the judgment of God if they do not repent. Because of God's eternal purpose for Israel and His promise to Abraham, those that rise up against Israel will suffer the judgment of God.

It will happen just as the sun is going to rise tomorrow. No, the Christians they fear will not lift a hand against them, the judgment will come from Almighty God himself. I'm here to tell you the truth in the only way I know how. Please listen, especially those in the United States. I don't know how much time we have left but surely, if God judged Sodom, He will judge us who have defiled our land with abortion, sexual immorality, forbidding the teaching of God in the schools while allowing the teaching of evolution and many other things, too many to mention 

The biggest sin of all is unbelief though; unbelief for not believing in the one God sent to save us from our sin. The sin of unbelief is what causes all the rest of the sins mentioned before. 

Leaders of many countries are allowing their governments to slowly rob people of their expression of faith in Jesus Christ. They are trying to silence the gospel. I know they don't realize that as yet, but that is what Satan is using them to do. Satan knows that if he can silence the message of the gospel he can gain power over these countries and destroy as many souls as he can. If he can use the courts or any other organization to silence the gospel and then persecute the ones who refuse to be silenced, then he can deceive and cause all to follow him on the way to hell and eternal torment.

Jesus Christ whom many resist is the only way to be saved from sin and escape hell. Jesus Christ came that we might escape the judgment of God for sin and inherit eternal life.

I am warning all who may listen, that if we in the USA continue on the path that we are going, we are doomed to be destroyed either by a wicked nation being allowed to come in and rule over us denying us any freedom to make our own choices and decisions or by total destruction some other way.

How do I know this??? Did God reveal this to me in a dream or vision? NO. All one has to do is read the bible. What was sin then, is still sin today. What God judged in the Old Testament is still facing judgment today. Read Revelation and see. Make fun of prophets of doom all you want but it will surely come to pass.

God doesn't even have to send judgment, we are destroying ourselves and taking away our own freedoms by ignoring God and casting away any remembrance of God from our society. Without His hand of protection the enemy will come in like a flood. We cast away the presence of God by ignoring His word. His word warns us against the very sins we do. If we don't do it ourselves, we sit and watch others do it on television or Internet. Surely it can't last much longer.

Those who are claiming they are fighting for freedom by taking away the mention of Jesus Christ or the gospel, are ignorant of what they are doing. Take God out and the wicked one comes in the backdoor. If you don't teach your children the right things, the devil will teach them the wrong things. Judgment is coming if we do not repent. It may hit the economy first.

God delays judgment to get people to repent, not to ignore what we do and allow us to get by with sin. However, He judges His own people first. The church that is backslidden and is full of false teaching will be judged first as Israel was judged first in the Old Testament but then He judges those that persecutes His people whether it is the church or Israel. He doesn't want to send judgment but He will have to eventually. His word says so. This is not me talking. The word of God tells us that unless we repent and accept the only way of salvation, we will die in our sins. It is plain. 

• John 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. 
• 22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. 
• 23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. 
• 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

If we do not believe that Jesus is "HE" the one God sent to save us from our sins, we will die in our sins. To die in sin is to be lost in hell for eternity. This does not have to be.  

• John 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 
• 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

That everlasting life is for all who turn from sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. DC
