Jeremiah Chapter 50
- Jeremiah 50:1 The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by
Jeremiah the prophet.
Now we see the prophecy given
concerning Babylon. Babylon was used by the Lord to bring judgment
upon Judah but they were not going to escape judgment either. God
judges any nation that sins eventually. He usually brings judgment
first to His own people. In those days God's people were Israel and
Judah. Judgment came to them first for forsaking what they knew to
be the truth and serving lies instead. Now we see judgment being
prophesied to come upon Babylon.
Many times the Lord uses the example of
Sodom and Gomorrah to warn us that if we sin the same as they did, we
shall bear the same judgment. This is so hard to get people to
understand. It is so hard to get people to recognize they have
sinned and are in need of repentance. If we continue to ignore God
in the United States we too will bear the judgment of God. Our
biggest sin here is just ignoring what we know to be the truth and
doing what is right in our own eyes.
The worst thing we do in the United
States is simply ignore God, ignore His word and we have even gone
so far as to ban His word in the public school systems, all in the
name of freedom. However, from the scriptures below we see that it
is not true freedom:
- 2Peter 2:19 While they
promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of
corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he
brought in bondage.
- 20 For if after
they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the
knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again
entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with
them than the beginning.
- 21 For it had
been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness,
than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy
commandment delivered unto them.
- 22 But it is
happened unto them according to the true proverb, The
dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was
washed to her wallowing in the mire.
We have listened to those who promise
liberty but we have become servants of corruption. Women are at
liberty to kill their own unborn children through abortion, but they
are in reality servants of sin and corruption.
Those that depart from the way God
created us in the area of sexual relationships have liberty to
openly practice the way they live but in reality they are in deep
bondage and are headed for misery. Disease will be the result of
departing from that which is natural. In fact denying God as
our creator and substituting the theory of evolution was the
beginning of our being deceived in the area of sexual
relationships. These are not my words but God's word.
Romans chapter one describe this in
detail. What we are seeing today is actually a judgment of God
for denying our creator. In the name of liberty we teach
evolution instead of creation but in reality we are servants of the
lies of Satan that will destroy the souls of all who believe this
false way.
Satan is out to steal, kill and destroy
our physical lives as well as our eternal souls. God gave us a way
out of this but if Jesus and His salvation is ignored we will be
lost forever without God. All nations who do abominable God
forbids, are in bondage, not liberty.
Diseases, mental illness, confusion and then violence is a direct
result of not retaining God in our knowledge.
We are without excuse because we knew
the truth. We've had bibles, preachers, and truth since our
beginning in 1776. We turned from those things and made God
unconstitutional. The thing is; we Christians, the church,
have set back and let it happen.
- Jeremiah
50:2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a
standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel
is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are
confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
This prophecy came to pass and Babylon
is no more. There are some that believe that Babylon is to be
revived in the future and then judged again by God fulfilling the
judgment of Babylon in Revelation. This could become a reality.
Some of course believe the United States is the Babylon of the bible
but we have to be careful and not interpret bible prophecy by
current events because current events constantly change.
- Jeremiah
50:3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her,
which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell
therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and
beast.
- 4 In those days,
and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall
come, they and the children of Judah together, going and
weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.
After Babylon is defeated, Israel shall
rejoice and seek God again. This happened in part when they became a
nation in the days of Nehemiah but they were still under the rule of
others so I believe this prophecy will be fulfilled more fully in
the future during the time of the Great Tribulation, the time of
Jacob's trouble.
- Jeremiah 50:5 They shall ask the way to
Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join
ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be
forgotten.
- 6 My people hath been lost sheep:
their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them
away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they
have forgotten their resting place.
Those who shepherd the flock or lead
people will be accountable for how they led and what they
taught. It is better not to be a pastor than to be a false shepherd.
- Jeremiah 50:7 All that found them have
devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because
they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even
the LORD, the hope of their fathers.
This is their hope and the hope of all
who repent of sin and seek God. God will surely hear a sincere heart
that seeks Him whether in those days or in this present time. If any
man, woman, child, black, white, Jew, or Gentile seeks God by
repenting of sin and turning to the way God provided to be rid of
sin, God will save them. That way He provided is through faith in
the Son of God, Jesus Christ. There is no other way of salvation.
Before Jesus came they looked forward
to the time when the Messiah would come and they were still saved by
repenting of sin and turning to God by faith expecting God to save
them and deliver them by the one that was to come in the future. Now
we look back to that time when the Messiah came to make a final,
permanent offering for the sins of all of mankind. Both Old
Testament people and New Testament people were saved by faith in the
Messiah, the Christ the savior of the world, Jesus Christ.
- Jeremiah 50:8 Remove out of the midst of
Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as
the he goats before the flocks.
- 9 For, lo, I will raise and cause
to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the
north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her;
from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain.
The Medes and Persians defeated and
brought down the kingdom of Babylon.
- Jeremiah 50:10 And Chaldea shall be a
spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD.
- 11 Because ye were glad, because
ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown
fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;
This is the reason for Babylon's
destruction. They rejoiced at Israel's defeat. They became
destroyers of God's heritage (Israel).
- Jeremiah 50:12 Your mother shall be sore
confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a
desert.
- 13 Because of the wrath of the
LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate:
every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all
her plagues.
- 14 Put yourselves in array
against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her,
spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD.
- 15 Shout against her round about:
she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are
thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance
upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
- 16 Cut off the sower from
Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest:
for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his
people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.
At one time the king of Babylon became
so exalted in himself that he and his people drank from the holy
vessels of the Lord they had taken from the temple of Jerusalem.
Judgment came to that king the same night. Babylon was so great and
powerful. Its inhabitants thought that nothing could defeat them. It
doesn't matter how great a nation is or how powerful are their
armies, when God says the word, it is enough, they will be brought
to nothing.
Nations rise and nations fall at the
will of almighty God. Did the Nazi armies fall? Did Communism fall
in the Soviet Union? Every evil nation shall fall. They are doomed
before they even start. Sin, slavery, persecution, theft, murder,
sexual immorality, perversion, idolatry, atheism, humanism, and
anything that is against God and God's word will be brought to
nothing.
-
2Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called
by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and
turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
God did not speak these words just to
fill up space in the bible. If His people would humble themselves
and pray and seek Him and in doing so turn from their wicked ways,
He will forgive sin and heal the land.
Repenting and turning from evil is part
of salvation. Some teach that we just receive Jesus Christ and that
is all but to receive Jesus Christ is to repent of sin and turn from
evil. To believe in a person is to believe what that person stands for.
We can't receive Jesus Christ and continue in sin. That is not
receiving Christ for real.
To believe in Christ means to follow all He
says, all He is and all He stands for. Believe upon the Lord Jesus
Christ who represents God. God sent Him to tell us how to be saved.
God sent Him to save us from sin. To believe upon Him means to
accept what He teaches and what He does for us. We can't say we
believe if we do not the things that He says.
- John 14:21 He that hath my
commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that
loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will
manifest myself to him.
- 23 Jesus answered and said unto
him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will
love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
- 24 He that loveth me not keepeth
not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the
Father's which sent me.
A true sign that shows who really believes
and who does not is when they begin to find out what God's word says
they desire to live by it.
- 1John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we
know him, if we keep his commandments.
- 4 He that saith, I know him, and
keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in
him.
We can't get any plainer than that. If we say
we know God and ignore what He says, we don't really know Him.
Can we just see how important it is to
keep the word of God and take heed to its teachings? To ignore God's
word is to love death.
- Jeremiah 50:17 Israel is a scattered
sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria
hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath
broken his bones.
This would not have happened to them if they would have kept God's word.
- Jeremiah 50:18 Therefore thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of
Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
- 19 And I will bring Israel again
to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his
soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
- 20 In those days, and in that
time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for,
and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not
be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
This prophecy is in the future when
they recognize who their Messiah is and they are cleansed from sin
by receiving Jesus into their lives. They will have no iniquity. God
will surely pardon and they will be reconciled back to God.
- Jeremiah 50:21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod:
waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do
according to all that I have commanded thee.
- 22 A sound of battle is in the
land, and of great destruction.
- 23 How is the hammer of the whole
earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation
among the nations!
- 24 I have laid a snare for thee,
and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou
art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the
LORD.
- 25 The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for
this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the
Chaldeans.
- 26 Come against her from the
utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and
destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.
- 27 Slay all her bullocks; let
them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come,
the time of their visitation.
- 28 The voice of them that flee
and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the
vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.
- 29 Call together the archers
against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round
about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her
work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath
been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
This is a warning to all nations who
come against Israel and also this includes every believer who has
received Jesus Christ as savior and have
become "born again" by the spirit of God. Even though Israel as a
nation is not in the will of God right now, August 2025, God has plans for them
and those that come against Israel will be judged severely by God.
The devil has always been jealous of
Israel because Israel was the one chosen by God to bring salvation
to the whole world. This salvation came by one born among them, even
Jesus Christ who was born a Jew in the lineage of David. This was
actually God who came into the flesh by the Holy Spirit. Jesus
Christ was the very Son of God who brought salvation from sin into
the world.
The devil, even Satan has continually
tried to wipe Israel out and keep the plan of God from happening.
Even after the time of Jesus Christ, Satan continues to try to get
rid of Israel so that God cannot save even a remnant of them and so
the end time prophecy fulfillments cannot occur.
Any
nation who allows themselves to be part of the persecution of Israel
will be judged by God and come to an end. The hate they feel toward
Israel is from Satan himself. Satan is the author of hate.
Anti-Semitism is from Satan. Anti-Christian bigotry is from Satan. Hate is from the devil
himself. No one calling themselves a child of God should ever
possess "Hate."
- Jeremiah 50:30 Therefore shall her young
men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in
that day, saith the LORD.
- 31 Behold, I am against thee, O
thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come,
the time that I will visit thee.
- 32 And the most proud shall
stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a
fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.
This is why there is a saying, "Pride
goes before a fall." When a nation or a people are full of pride and
begin to think they can do as they please without any regard for the
word of God or the will of God, they stand on dangerous ground.
- Jeremiah 50:33 Thus saith the LORD of
hosts; The children of Israel and the children of
Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held
them fast; they refused to let them go.
This happened in Egypt and also Babylon.
- 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the
LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause,
that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of
Babylon.
- 35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her
princes, and upon her wise men.
- 36 A sword is upon the liars; and
they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be
dismayed.
- 37 A sword is upon their horses,
and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in
the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon
her treasures; and they shall be robbed.
- 38 A drought is upon her waters;
and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and
they are mad upon their idols.
- 39 Therefore the wild beasts of
the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there,
and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited
for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to
generation.
- 40 As God overthrew Sodom and
Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall
no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
- 41 Behold, a people shall come
from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised
up from the coasts of the earth.
- 42 They shall hold the bow and
the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice
shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every
one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter
of Babylon.
The Medes and Persians showed no mercy
just as the Babylonians showed no mercy to Israel.
- Jeremiah 50:43 The king of Babylon hath
heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took
hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.
- 44 Behold, he shall come up like
a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the
strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and
who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like
me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that
will stand before me?
- 45 Therefore hear ye the counsel
of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes,
that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the
least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall
make their habitation desolate with them.
- 46 At the noise of the taking of
Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
So we see God judges evil nations and
will also judge the evil nations standing today. We are not going to
get by with sin. All sin will be judged.
The wonderful thing is that God in His
love and mercy gave us a way to escape the judgment that is coming
upon the world. By repenting of sin and turning to Jesus Christ we
will escape the doom of hell and have eternal life.
-
Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned
into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
-
Proverbs 15:24 The way of life is above to
the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
- Isaiah 5:14 Therefore hell hath enlarged
herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and
their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall
descend into it.
- 15 And the mean man shall be brought
down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty
shall be humbled:
16 But the LORD of hosts shall be
exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in
righteousness.
Yet in all these things God made a way
of escape. The message is the same, repent and turn to the savior,
Jesus Christ, and you shall escape the judgment of God. Why does God
have to bring judgment? Because sin and suffering is not meant to
continue forever. It has to stop. God made a way for us to escape it
but if we continue on without going God's way, we will fall into
eternity without God and lost forever. This doesn't have to be. He
made a way for us to be free from sin and enjoy eternity with Him.
