Psalm Chapter 101
A Psalm of David.
David made a lot of mistakes which of course, he paid for. The times he messed up caused him much misery and grief. David even committed sin and got out of God's will many times. Sin caused him to lose some of his own children. Sin has consequences but sin can be wiped out, overcome and forgiven by our Lord. That is why David could sing over and over about the mercies of the Lord. It was the Lord's mercy that forgave David's sin, wiped his slate clean and he could begin again. David also was chosen to be part of the lineage of the Christ that was to come to save all the world from sin. We must be careful not to miss learning of the first coming of Jesus, because the first coming was to preach the gospel of repentance from sin, pay the price for sin, and usher in the way for all to be saved from sin by faith in Christ Jesus the Lord. David looked forward to this occasion and we in today's world look back to that time when Christ came in the flesh. Now we also look forward to the second coming when Christ comes for those that believe on Him to deliver them from the wrath coming upon the earth and set up a kingdom that will last forever. Sin has to be done away with first and then Jesus can set up a kingdom of righteousness. We tend to forget the repenting of sin when we preach Jesus. Yet that is so important because if we are not willing to turn from sin, we cannot be delivered from sin, receive the Holy Spirit and inherit eternal life. God does not want sin in eternity. The reason we have so many problems with sin is because we don't humble ourselves, admit we have sinned and turn from sin. We will always have trouble in the flesh if we do not renounce sin.
David was determined to set His mind on the Lord and walk perfect. We now have the help we need available to enable us to walk in God's will. This help comes to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. This was only available to a few prophets and those that sought God in a special way in the past. Now because of the price Jesus Christ paid to free us from sin, the Holy Spirit can dwell within each one of us who believe and receive Jesus as Lord. Glory to God for this unspeakable gift.
Turning aside is a sad state of mind for any to be in. That means that the person once knew what was right but turned aside from the right way and went the way of all flesh which is doing what is right in their own eyes.
This sounds like some of us today. We think we are okay and acceptable. We think we care for the poor, have gotten rid of slavery and bigotry. We think we are the policemen of the world but we cast God out of our schools, take the ten commandments off our public buildings, refuse to acknowledge God in all we do except when we are trying to win an election. We have abortion (murder of babies) on demand, we encourage sexual immorality by accepting sex outside of marriage and make a mockery of the marriage God ordains as holy. We don't have to persecute and harass those that do those things but we do not have to accept it as normal either. We need to warn in a gentle way that shows love like we would warn our children if they decided to play around a den of lions. Sexual immorality will bring in disease and confusion. Sooner or later they will not be satisfied with their own lifestyle and will turn to pornography, innocent children or even animals. In fact there are some groups working to legalize pedophilia. There is no end to perversion if this is not held in check by the fear of God and holy living. These sins have brought down even preachers, priests and those that represent God. We must seek the Lord for victory over these things and not give into them.
Having a froward heart is a heart that departs from God and goes the way of the world around them. Aside from fervently preaching the gospel we must not socialize and agree with the sins of the wicked but reprove them. This doesn't mean that we don't speak and share the gospel with anyone.
While I warn of sexual immorality, I must not fail to neglect the type of sin that is so often overlooked. Some overlook the sexual sins and major on this type but both types of sin should be warned against. Slander, gossip, pride, back-biting, harassing, and prejudice is just as evil as sexual immorality. Both are evil and both destroy peace and joy in the Lord. If Satan cannot get us to commit sexual sins, he comes at us with the above sins of gossip and slander. When people who are living in sexual sins see us full of slander, hate and gossip they feel justified in their own sins and will not listen to a word we have to say on repentance. If we preach repentance and we need to preach on it, we must live a life of holiness to back up what we are preaching. This is where we are failing. We preach good things but are not allowing the Holy Spirit to live a holy life in us. Other things that ruin our testimony are murmuring and complaining. I'm not talking about correcting something that is wrong when we see sin in the church. I'm talking about murmuring because we don't make enough money, the color of the walls are not to our liking, the carpet is the wrong color and trivial things. We are unthankful and unholy when we complain. We have gotten into the thinking that our employers owe us vacation pay, holiday pay and sick leave instead of being thankful that some of them provide it. Our attitude is one of murmuring instead of gratefulness.
Deceit and lying is another stumbling block that the world will see if we confess Jesus as our Lord. Even in business we must be honest and have integrity for the Lord's sake.
This will happen at the return of Jesus Christ to set up His kingdom on earth. Wickedness shall not prevail. Repentance and faith in Jesus Christ will enable us to escape the wrath to come. DC
