Psalm Chapter 24

A Psalm of David.

  • Psalm 24:1  The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

This is the most comforting thought that when all is said and done, no matter how bad things look, the earth is the Lord's. He is returning to claim the earth back and restore it to what it was before the fall of man.

I cherish the thought that God is still in control. Even though things have changed so much since the late 1950s.  In our own country (USA) we have abortion, we left God's divine order in marriage and just about everything has gone downhill. Some run and get divorces without having any reason except they just can't get along or want someone else. Among the youth there is gender confusion where some do not want to be what they are born to be and desire to be something else. Mass suicides, confusion and school shootings, drug addictions, have been in recent years.

God's commandments on marriage are totally ignored. His divine order to help us live peaceful and godly lives is in disarray; yet He will bring His divine order back at the coming of Jesus to set His kingdom as God ordains. There is nothing anyone will be able to do to stop it. Nothing.

What we fail to realize is God makes commandments not to discriminate, make us miserable or cause us harm but to protect us from disease, confusion and being destroyed by the enemy of our souls which is the adversary we call Satan. He is out to steal, kill and destroy.

Lack of respect for the word of God and no fear of God in the land beginning in the 1960s, started a downward spiral into all this violence and confusion.

It looks bleak for the Christian who is trying to live in holiness. Yet what a comfort the Psalms are in reminding us that God still knows all about us and everything is going to work out for the good of all who trust in Him for their salvation.

  • Psalm 24:2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

The Psalmist reminds us of who the creator is and who made the earth.

  • Psalm 24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
  • 4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

There is hope for all in this passage, for through faith in Jesus the Christ, we now have access to the Spirit of God who will come to dwell within us when we place our faith in Jesus. He will then enable us to have clean hands, a pure heart, no deceit and not follow after vanity. Before Christ we did these things, having no power to overcome them. Faith in Jesus makes a change. Old things pass away and all things become new.

  • Psalm 24:5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
  • 6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

All those that seek the Lord will be rewarded with God's presence in their lives now and eternal life in the future.

  • Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
  • 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Repent means to change or turn around, seek forgiveness, turn to Christ. Repentance is a doctrine of the Old Testament and the New. We need to repent of sin before we can be saved from sin through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
  • 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
  • 9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
  • 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

This is I believe a preview of the coming of Jesus Christ literally. He is returning. When many start to think the Lord delays His coming, than He just may come. When some may assume the Second Coming is not a literal coming, He just may come.  DC

  • Luke12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
