Psalm Chapter 50

A Psalm of Asaph.

  • Psalm 50:1 The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
  • 2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
  • 3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
  • 4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
  • 5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

All believers who love God and love His word will be gathered safely to Him.

  • Psalm 50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

God will judge everyone at an appointed time. Evil will not continue forever. It seems a long time to us that evil prevails but it will end and righteousness shall reign. That is why it is imperative that we get safely on the Lord's side.

We must cast our lots on the side of righteousness and refuse the unfruitful works of darkness. God made a perfect way for us to be saved and free from sin. It is up to us to believe and receive this good perfect way. The righteousness of Jesus Christ can replace our old ugly ways. We can be partakers of the holiness of God. He made the way. We can accept or reject God's wonderful plan of salvation. If we refuse after Jesus paid such a high price, it is not God's fault when we face Him on the judgment day.

  • Psalm 50:7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
  • 8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.

Israel gave sacrifices and offerings continually. That was not the fault God had with them. He wanted them to be thankful and acknowledge His word. This is our biggest fault today also. We have many good works and good deeds but we are neglecting the respect for the word of God. We have lost the fear of God and make light of His word.

  • Psalm 50:9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
  • 10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
  • 11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
  • 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
  • 13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

God is not asking for sacrifices, food or our riches.

  • Psalm 50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
  • 15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

God wants us to call upon Him and love Him and worship Him in spirit and in truth with thanksgiving.

  • Psalm 50:16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

The wicked are the ones that ignore God's laws and statutes. These are the ones facing the judgment of God both as a nation and as individuals.

  • Psalm 50:17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.

We see this going on today. So many are hating the instruction that God gives and casts the words of God aside like they are nothing. We face destruction as a nation for this. God cannot allow ignoring the word to continue.

  • Psalm 50:18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.

If we allow evil to continue unchecked we will pay the price. If we see adultery and do not reprove it, we are just as guilty. We must speak out for good and against evil. Yet when we do, we are called evil by some societies. When the government starts to call evil good and good, evil, that is a bad sign. If we preach against the practice of immoral sexual relationships that is not sanctioned and ordained by God, we are called evil, if we accept what they do as normal, we are called good. God ordains the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. This is holy, it will bring safety and guard against disease, mental illness and confusion.

WAKE UP AMERICA. We are doing just what the bible warns will destroy our country.  If we speak out against abortion we are called evil people denying a woman's right to choose. If we support abortion rights, we are called good by society. This is the very opposite of righteousness.  Murder of the innocent is going on and we do not reprove it.

Living together without the commitment to a marriage is considered normal. If we speak out against it, we are considered the ones that are old fashioned and are in the wrong. If we dare to believe the word of God and speak out against sin, we are accused of bigotry. Yet if we keep silent, many will go on to be lost and lose their eternal souls.

  • Psalm 50:19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.

  • Colosians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

  • Psalm 50:20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.

How many times have we heard slander and accusations without just cause. This is especially done against those that preach the truth of the word of God.

  • Psalm 50:21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
  • 22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

Those that forget God will face judgment. Those that reject the gospel will face judgment. Jesus Christ suffered and died for our sins, if we reject Him, there is no other way to be saved. We face the judgment of God if we do not receive Jesus because Jesus gives us the only possible power over sin. Sin will take us to hell. Without Jesus we will die in our sins.

  • Psalm 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

This is why repentance is so important. If we are not willing to confess and forsake our sins, our sins will remain and we will be lost. God brings us salvation if we repent and receive the gospel. There is no other way.

  • 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus came to deliver and cleanse us from sin. It is up to us to receive this.

  • Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

When we make God our Lord, we are part of His inheritance and we partake of eternal life. DC
