Psalm Chapter 56

To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath.

  • Psalm 56:1  Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

This is how we will feel when someone we trusted and loved turns against us as it happened to David. Elijah felt that way once. Jezebel was after his life and he felt like all Israel had turned aside after Baal. God told Elijah that there were 7000 people that had not bowed down to serve Baal.

We see in the United States today secularism, humanism and enemies of the gospel. They actually think that they are right and Christians are wrong. They are deceived into thinking that evolution is science. They refuse to consider the flaws and holes in their theory of evolution. A flawed human trait that most of us have is that we tend to believe what our heart wants to believe. Evolution is just a theory. That is all it is. A theory.

Like I said though, we tend to believe what we want to believe and if we search we will usually find so called facts to back up what we desire to believe anyway. In saying that by the way, a true scientist will want the truth, not to satisfy his or her agenda. Agendas will change if we meet the real God who created us.

This changes when one runs into the cross of Jesus Christ. Once we come to Christ in true repentance, our eyes become open to the truth of the gospel. The word of God becomes alive within us and we begin to see things differently. Sometimes we who believe in Jesus and the true way will assume we are very few in number but God always has a remnant who are true and faithful to him just like God showed Elijah. Some have not bowed down to Baal. God had those also that were true to David but at the time when he wrote this Psalm, he felt alone.

There have been many people who are deceived by the abortion deception. "The woman's right to choose what to do with her own body," sounded nice and Democratic. It sounded fair and fit right in to today's women's rights thinking. The devil knew when and how to promote abortion. Had he tried to defile society with this 100 years ago, he would not have succeeded.

When a woman truly becomes, "born again," by the spirit of God, her thinking will change. She once considered abortion to be a right, but now she begins to see it as what it really is, murder. It is the taking of an innocent life.

You might say, what if it means the mother's life?
Actually that is just a cop out and excuse to justify the murder of an unborn baby. In today's world of medical miracles, there is rarely a reason to abort a baby to save the mother's life. This is an excuse we use to make us feel a little better about abortion.

Doesn't it prevent child abuse? First of all, abortion is child abuse. Those babies in the womb can feel pain. They burn when a solution is injected into the womb to kill the them. They feel the scissors enter into their skull to crush it if abortion is done just before the birth of a baby by crushing its skull. In reality child abuse has actually increased since the legalization of abortion. It has not decreased. One sin does not get rid of another sin. Both increase. Now we have children being kidnapped in child sex rings. It has not decreased.

  • Psalm 56:2 Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.

When we are surrounded by people who are against anything good and holy, we sometimes feel swallowed up. Yet God will always give you a friend to help. Someone will stand beside you. If by chance that doesn't happen then you know for certain the Lord Himself stands by you.

  • Psalm 56:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
  • 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

This is our only comfort. Give up self. Give up on worrying about our life here on the earth. Trust in God and seek the things that are for eternity. This is what David who became the greatest king of Israel, learned to do. Trust in the Lord.

  • Psalm 56:5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

When we trust in God, the world will not like us. They will speak out against us. This is what is happening now. Those that speak out against sin are considered fundamentalists, troublemakers, bigots and hate-mongers. We must not be these things in truth but we might be accused of these things. Wresting someone's words is using them wrongly or not judging fairly what his words meant. Falsey making and unfair ruling against someone is wresting judgment also.

When the Holy Spirit confronts someone with sin, the reaction of the person either will be to repent and come to Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sin or else resist the message of repentance and attack the one who brings the message.

Jesus was crucified by those who were angry at His message. They were convicted of their sin and did not want to repent. They did bring about the plan of God to save all who would believe having Him crucified but the reason they wanted to kill Christ was because they didn't want to repent of sin. They didn't acknowledge themselves as sinners.

Why do people get angry at us when we tell them abortion and sexual immorality against God's holy divine order is sin? Because they are resisting the message of the gospel.

The message of the gospel is all of us have sinned and need to repent. Repent means to change and turn from sin. The Holy Spirit is who will bring us to repentance and bring us to Christ who is able to deliver us from the power of sin. He fills us with His own Holy Spirit to abide with us forever. If we resist this way of salvation our human flesh will strike out at and despise those that bring us the truth.

The flesh does not want to hear that he or she has sinned. Our flesh does not want to repent. We are too proud to admit that we are wrong. So that flesh strikes out at the person who brings us the message of repentance.

An humble person will receive the gospel because he or she knows that they are a sinner in need of salvation. An humble person realizes that they can't save themselves and need help. A person who is meek and humble will receive the word of God much quicker than the proud who thinks he has no need of repentance.

Unless we confess and acknowledge that we have sinned and seek God to be free from that sin, the sin stays within us. Sin will destroy us eventually. That is why the world is in such a sad condition today. Most have not repented of sin and turned to God.

They instead have turned away from God and say:

  1. He does not exist
  2. If he does exist, we can't know him personally.
  3. There is good in everyone and we don't need to repent
  4. We can make it on our own and be good on our own.
  5. I've done nothing wrong, I haven't hurt anyone.
  6. I'm only human.
  7. God loves me as I am
  8. It doesn't matter what religion you are.
  9. You don't have to repent of sin, just believe in Christ
  10. We can work things out by making laws to forbid any religion.

WRONG

This is why the world is in a mess now. WE NEED GOD and WE NEED TO RETURN TO THE WORD OF GOD.

The bible is not an outdated book. It is up to date and still valid. READ IT and UNDERSTAND.

  • Psalm 56:6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
  • 7 Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
  • 8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

There is a book of life with the names written of all who acknowledge and believe in God. By believe I mean those that believe in God enough to obey the word of God. The devil believes that God exists. To believe in something means that you live by that something. To really believe in God means you live by what God says, you love God and you walk in God's ways.

  • Psalm 56:9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
  • 10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
  • 11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

This is a decision we all have to make when we give our lives to God.

  1. God will give us strength not to fear what our school mates, teachers, co-workers, bosses or neighbors think if we acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives.
  2. We don't have to fear losing our jobs if we publicly claim Jesus Christ as Lord. He will never forsake those that trust in Him.
  3. We never have to fear those who are against the gospel.
  4. We never have to fear those who threaten our lives.

This comes as we walk with God. We may not feel this way now but if the time may come that we face these things, the Holy Spirit will give us the grace to endure at that hour in which we go through these things. If we are ashamed of Jesus Christ now when it is easy to believe and no one threatens us for our faith, how could we stand when our lives are threatened? We can't overcome fear in our own strength, it comes from the power of God.

  • Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

If we are ashamed of Christ, He will be ashamed of us before the throne of God.

  • Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

  • Romans 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

  • 2Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
  • 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Here is the hope and promise of our final deliverance. He is coming to receive us so we can forever be safe and abide with Him.

  • 1John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

  • Psalm 56:12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
  • 13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Sometimes we have to stand for righteousness when it seems that everyone else is going the wide path to destruction. Follow not a crowd because the way of the popular opinion may not be the right way.

  • Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
  • 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today and you shall be saved and be an influence to save those that are around you. -DC
