Psalm Chapter 59
To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.
I sometimes wonder how David must have felt to have his own former friend turn against him and attempt to take his life. Saul knew that God was going to replace him as king with David. Saul was very jealous of David. That may seem to be a normal reaction but Saul once knew God and even was used of God to prophesy. Saul was once chosen of God and anointed to be king of Israel. Saul was removed because he disobeyed God and stopped being an obedient servant that was acknowledging God. If Saul would have accepted God's plan and yielded to the will of God, the end of his life would not have been so tragic. The bible says, "Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm." David refused to lift a hand up against Saul even though God delivered Saul into his hands and he could have killed Saul more than once. Yet David acknowledged that God had anointed Saul and only God could remove Saul. Saul did not acknowledge this fact about David. God also anointed David and Saul did not fear God but tried to take David's life. Thus in the end Saul was destroyed and David became king. We can't win any fight against God.
The Jewish people were also called anointed of God. Anyone God anoints and sends is anointed. We are not to physically harm anyone that is anointed of God. This verse surely does not mean that we are not to oppose false doctrine and error. Do not physically harm anyone that God has anointed. Let God do the judging and removing if they are to be removed. Much evil has been done by organized religion in killing those that disagreed with them in doctrine. We are not to do that. We are to reprove false teaching and heresy but we are not to physically harm anyone because we could be the ones in the wrong. I don't believe a pastor can use this verse to cause people not to oppose anything he says or does. That would be crazy to assume that for this reason. People followed Jim Jones and drank poison because Jim Jones told them to. Jim claimed to be a prophet of God and anointed of God. This verse was not written for us to follow false teachers blindly. God gave us a mind to think, His word to guide us and the Holy Spirit to help us discern good from evil. So we are not to physically harm any prophet, teacher, or preacher but we are not to follow them if they are not properly following the truth of the word. That is why God took great care to preserve the written word for us to be guided by. Blessed by the name of the Lord. I believe strongly that God will bless everyone who sticks by the written word and refuses to follow any person, organization or church that leaves the teachings of the word of God.
Those that boast themselves against God or God's people is really laughable because God's power is greater. God is not afraid of any group that rises up to oppose God's people. He surely sees their attempts to remove the His presence and His word from the public eye. If they succeed in this they will try to remove it from the private sector also. They are but a drop of water in a bucket. They have no power except what God is allowing them to have for a season. Perhaps God allows them to exist for a season to see if we would sit still for this or boldly proclaim the word of God. The ACLU succeeded in the fight against Judge Moore in taking the ten commandments off the court house in Alabama. Did they win in reality? NO All the across the country people began to put up ten commandment signs in their yards on private property. One local man painted the ten commandments on his barn for all to see from the road. It was removed from the court house in Alabama that very few saw but then it was being placed in yards all across the country. Good came from evil. Every time the wicked rise up against those good, it brings attention to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the word of God. Praise the Lord. His word will go forth and not return empty.
The faithful will win in the end. All those that stay faithful to the word of God will prevail. The enemies of the gospel will never win. Believe me no one that does evil continually and never makes things right with God will not win in the end. All their riches and gain will be left to another. There is no peace or salvation to those that reject the way God made for us to be reconciled to God. Reject Jesus, reject a place of peace and joy with God in eternity. DC
