Psalm Chapter 63

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

  • Psalm 63:1  O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Have you ever been thirsty? It feels awful and the only thought that you think of is to quench your thirst as soon as possible. Nothing in the world matters at the moment except to get a drink of water. Imagine what we would become, if we desired the presence of God in our lives like someone who thirsts for water. We shall be filled with God's Spirit. The more we want of God's spirit, the more we will receive. The less we desire God's presence, the less we will have. We are supposed to desire righteousness.

  • Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

You cannot possibly desire God with all your heart and remain empty. He will come to you if you desire Him to do so.

  • Psalm 63:2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
  • 3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
  • 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
  • 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
  • 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
  • 7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
  • 8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

Nothing in this life compares to the presence of the Lord. We could search high and low, be rich, have anything available to mankind and still be empty. Just one moment however, in the Lord's presence if worth more than all the things in this life. Praise God. His salvation is everlasting, His Spirit never leaves those that stay faithful to Him. To choose Him is to choose life. To depart from the Lord is to desire death.

  • Psalm 63:9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

Sad but true is the fact that if those that persecute the righteous do not repent and turn to Jesus Christ they will perish eternally in hell.

  • Psalm 63:10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
  • 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

Those that seek God will rejoice forever more. Eternal life awaits the faithful in Christ Jesus. -DC
