Psalm Chapter 72

A Psalm for Solomon.

  • Psalm 72:1
  •  Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.
  • 2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.
  • 3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.
  • 4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

Fair and righteous judgment is coming. We may mock, laugh and scoff but the time is coming when we all face the judgment of God. This prayer was for Solomon but the answer will come through the other son of David, Jesus Christ. He will execute righteous judgment. God gave us the word. If we ignore it, we will face judgment. He gave us a way out of judgment through His Son, Jesus. If we ignore the only way of salvation, we will face the judgment of God.

The bible has much to say about oppressing the innocent, the poor and devouring widows houses. If we do those things, we will face the judgment of God.

  • Deuteronomy 24:14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:

  • Micah 2:1 Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.
  • 2 And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
  • Psalm 72:5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

The oppressors will one day fear those they have oppressed. Oppress not a Jew, the poor, the innocent, true Christians, widows, strangers, orphans or any other group that is oppressed without deserving that oppression. God is the all seeing one that will bring judgment. He that lives by the sword also shall die by the sword.

  • Revelation 13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

  • Psalm 72:6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
  • 7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
  • 8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
  • 9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
  • 10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
  • 11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
  • 12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
  • 13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
  • 14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
  • 15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.
  • 16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
  • 17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

The above verses is a prophecy of the future kingdom of God that will occur at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ upon the earth. He is coming just as sure as those that continually mock and say, "Where is His coming?"

  • Psalm 72:18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.
  • 19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
  • 20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

We can be part of the Kingdom of God. God sent Jesus the first time to die for sins. When we believe in Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven. We become "born again" by the precious spirit of almighty God. We become a new creature in Jesus Christ. Old things are then passed away and all things become new. The Holy Spirit will then come into our innermost beings. He will dwell with us and give us power over sin. We must turn from sin and come to Jesus Christ to be saved. This is the only way. Jesus Christ suffered and paid the supreme sacrifice for our salvation. If we ignore this, there remains no other way to be saved and we will die in our sins and face the coming judgment of God. To enter His kingdom, we must accept the Son, Jesus Christ. DC

  • John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

  • Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
