Psalm Chapter 9

To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David.

  • Psalm 9:1 I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

And truly the Lord has many marvelous works to show to the world. David would not have known half of what we know now unless he somehow knew by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We now know of God's great plan of salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Great is His holy name. We now have the hope of eternal life. And yet, we still don't know the half:

  • Isaiah 64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

That verse is Isaiah is repeated in 1 Corinthians. It gives us a picture of things to come for those that come to Christ, that receive His salvation. We see the real heart of God that wants to save instead of destroying. He is preparing, He is getting a place ready for those who believe in word.

  • Psalm 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

This is why many rejoice and sing praises when they meet in assemblies to worship the Lord. Whether we worship in quietness or with loud rejoicing, it is most precious when our hearts lift up toward the Lord.

  • Psalm 9:3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

All enemies of righteousness shall perish at the Lord's presence.

  • Psalm 9:4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.
  • 5 Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
  • 6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.

God wills that all be saved and come to the knowledge of His eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. However a day is coming when God will say, "It is enough." When He sees His people persecuted for bringing the gospel and He sees that people will not repent, He will say, "Enough." Judgment will then fall on all mankind. The enemies of the gospel, the enemies of righteousness and the murderers of the innocent shall perish if they do not repent.

Remember Babylon, Media, Persia, Grecian Empire, Roman Empire, Germany during Hitler's time, Soviet Union and all future empires and kingdom who do not know God  and are cruel to those that do, will perish.

  • Psalm 9:7 But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.
  • 8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

The Lord is the only one who can rightly judge the whole world. We must not try to have any one world ruler before the return of Jesus Christ or else the innocent will suffer. No man can do this; it has to be the literal Jesus Christ:

  • Matthew 24:26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
  • Mat 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

To avoid believing in the false Messiah or what we call anti-Christ, we have to remember that the literal Jesus, the one who died for our sins, the one who is the only way to God and the only way for anyone to be saved, will literally return as lightning, from the sky. He will not be a man born of a woman the second time.

  • Psalm 9:9 The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

He surely is this and more.

  • Psalm 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

We can seek and know God personally. He is not some God afar off that we can't understand and have fellowship with. He is a God that dwells within believers by His Holy Spirit.

  • Psalm 9:11 Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

This is why we sing, shout and rejoice.  We need to worship God in song as well as in praise.

  • Psalm 9:12 When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.

This is my own opinion on the matter but I really believe that the sin of persecuting and killing the bearers of the word of God or the innocent is what makes God finally bring severe judgment upon a group of people who do these things.

  • Psalm 9:13 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

Those that hate God's people will surely be judged because God will bring vengeance. Notice here: God brings vengeance, we are not supposed to do it. We are to love our enemies, God is the judge. If we do the judging, we may destroy the wrong ones or someone innocent. God will judge the tares in His own time.

  • Psalm 9:14 That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.
  • 15 The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

He that lives by the sword shall die by the sword. Whatever unjust thing one commits against the Lord or His anointed, shall be done unto him.

  • Psalm 9:16 The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
  • 17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

We plead and plead this but it falls on deaf ears. The wicked shall be turned into hell. All nations ALL that forget God shall be turned in Hell. We can't get any plainer that that. To reject God, to reject the Son of God who came to save you from your sins, is to reject Heaven and choose Hell.

  • Psalm 9:18 For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.
  • 19 Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight.
  • 20 Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.

God offers so much good and to reject Him brings evil eternally, why is it so hard to get people to repent and accept the gift of eternal life?
