Esther Chapter 6

The King Honors Mordecai

  • Esther 6:1  On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
  • 2  And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
  • 3  And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.

God always has a way to deliver His people. Sometimes it comes as something out of the ordinary. Something unexpected. Even though God is using Esther, the king's lack of sleep opens the door to a type of deliverance that has nothing to do with Esther. It was God who caused the lack of sleep.

Like God gave Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon dreams, to keep Daniel and his three friends safe; also God gave Pharoah dreams to put Joseph in authority to help in the time of famine. God gave this king night of restlisness to save the Jewish people. How marvelous and great our God is.

  • Esther 6:4  And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
  • 5  And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

God is always on time. He moves just in the nick of time. When did God part the Red Sea when Moses and the children of Israel were trapped in between the sea and Pharoah's army coming after them to bring them back to Egypt as slaves? God saved them just in time when the armies of Pharoah were close ready to strike. Just in time.

  • Exodus 14:20  And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
  • 21  And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

Sometimes when things go bad it is hard to believe in miracles but we must be determined to trust God. Sometimes the Lord takes us home to be with Him and sometimes we see God deliver at the last minute. Jesus promised those that believed that He will never leave nor forsake them. So we must never forsake our trust in Him either.

  • Esther 6:6  So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
  • 7  And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
  • 8  Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
  • 9  And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
  • 10  Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

Wow. God knows how to bring about justice. Haman was defeated by his own pride and imagination. He meant evil for Mordecai but God turned it around into good for Mordecai.

  • Esther 6:11  Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
  • 12  And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
  • 13  And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.

Haman now was scared just like Mordecai was previously scared that all the Jews were going to be slaughtered. We reap what we sow, what goes around comes around. Believe me, no one will get by with evil.

Help us Lord to be faithful and do Your will. Help us stay humble and never be lifted up in pride. Help us to love and not hold grudges and have unforgiveness within us. Help us not to speak evil or plot against the innocent. The Spirit is willing but our flesh is so weak. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

Esther Reveals Haman's Plot

  • Esther 6:14  And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

This didn't have to happen like this. Haman had a choice. He didn't have to give into pride and then hate for an innocent person. God gave us the freedom to choose right from wrong. God prefers to save. That is why He sent Jesus to save our eternal souls. The soul and spirit do not die. We need God in our lives. -DC
