Nahum Chapter 2The Destruction of Nineveh
The armies of Babylon joined in with the armies of the Medes are ready to take Ninevah. Evil empires always and will always eventually come to an end. The reason it sometimes seem long is because of the mercy and grace of God our creator. They repented at the preaching of Jonah and the judgment was delayed for many years but they went back to their old ways so judgment is finally coming for this wicked city.
There has been some that suggested that verse 4 refers to modern day automobiles but Nineveh was destroyed long before any automobiles were invented. Since this prophecy is already fulfilled when the Babylone Empire arose, we know it couldn't refer to the latter day automobiles but perhaps it was a hint of some kind of latter day things but in reality we know the real meaning is for that day but even then it didn't come to pass until years later after the time of Jonah.
A historical account of this was when they were trying to bring down the walls of Nineveh, the walls were so strong they were not successful but the Tigress river that flowed through Nineveh filled up to flood stage after a sudden huge storm came and the rain was so strong that it caused the walls of the city to start crumbling by the flood. Looks like God helped in the destruction of this city. It doesn't pay to go against God after years of His mercy and grace sending prophets and preachers to warn against the evil they do.
This was the queen who somehow escaped when the city was burned by the king along with many of his concubines, and many others including himself when he saw what was happening to his city. This is according to tradition and not necessarily scripture but somehow the queen escaped but was taken captive.
The city is pictured here a den of lions where they were once safe, strong and secure but are now being destroyed.
All through the bible we see God sending prophets, preachers and others to warn individuals and leaders of countries that God's judgment comes swiftly after many years of trying to get them to repent and put away their evil. We see that sometimes they will stop for a while but sooner or later after other generations arise, they return to the evil their forefathers did and God has to send His judgment or else evil would continue for eternity. God will stop it eventually. How precious and holy it is to see people turn to Jesus Christ and the evil is defeated in their lives. They become fruitful and holy as God is holy. They love instead of hate, they are filled with His Holy Spirit, they walk in the Spirit and overcome the works of the flesh. Yet today even we see that some will refuse this good way. They defy their creator, they riot and kill those that try to bring the truth to them and save their souls. Right now in the United States people are upset and threatening to riot because they are afraid their right to abortions are going to be removed. They actually want to murder babies in the womb and upset that they might lose that right. We have those that want to change the gender of their own children with drugs and operations. They are defying the way God created us and soon judgment will come if they do not repent. Evil will be judged. God has a better way if only they would listen. In Romans chapter 1 we see how this happens. It happens when we refuse to retain God in our knowledge and stop teaching children of the real creator. We need God. DC
