Psalm Chapter 119 Part G

TZADDI

  • Psalm 119:137  Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments.

In the middle of this world of darkness, it is comforting to know that there is a righteous, just and all knowing God keeping watch over our souls.

  • Psalm 119:138 Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.

We can count on God to be just and faithful in all things. It is us who stray, mess up and fail, not God.

  • Psalm 119:139 My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words.

This is so true. Since I live in the United States I can only speak of our own country. It is sad that we have cast God out of our public schools in the name of freedom not realizing that we have become servants of bondage. Without the fear of God all knowledge is vain. It will profit nothing.

Sin has increased. Divorce, abortion, dissatisfaction, mental problems and troubled kids has abounded. We need the fear of the Lord back. Without God we will descend into ignorance and bondage. Some do not want to have anything to do with Jesus so bad that they spend money just to fight a city to remove the symbol of the cross from a city seal. It has become so silly and vain.

Actually though they are outwardly showing us what has already taken place in our hearts. Christ does not rule our hearts. We have neglected the word, changed the word, overruled teachings of even our Lord Jesus Christ to accommodate our own desires. Sinners have not done this, God's people have. I've heard so few messages on holiness in recent years. Yet God speaks of it. Instead of being critical of our church leaders of the past who preached holiness, why don't we examine why they preached what they did instead of accusing them of legalism.

I'm not for adding to the scripture and being as the Pharisees but I also don't want to see us abandon the word of God for our own standards of behavior either. If we want to live a certain way, we simply rely on grace and ignore what the bible says about what we are doing. We are so afraid of legalism that we are not warning against sin.

  • Psalm 119:140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

The word will correct, instruct and teach us right living. That is what righteousness is. Right living because we love God. We can't do this apart from Jesus. When we believe in Him to take away our sins, He gives us His Holy Spirit to produce right living within us. Before Christ we have no strength to do this and any righteous thing we did before Him is for nothing and will not save the soul.

Sin abides in a person who is without Christ and until the blood of Jesus covers that sin, we cannot do works of righteousness. True holiness and righteousness comes when we come to God through faith in Jesus and the righteousness of Christ fills our hearts and minds. God is good to offer us a way to be free from sin and receive the Holy Spirit that gives us a desire to live in holiness before God.

  • Psalm 119:141 I am small and despised: yet do not I forget thy precepts.

The more holy we live, the more the world will despise us because our lives testify to them that they are unrighteous and in need of a savior. Those that resist the message of salvation by repenting of sin and receiving Jesus will dislike anyone who makes them feel guilty or uncomfortable.

  • Psalm 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

The word of God is true, why do we dare try to explain it away and change it to suit the times we live in?

  • Psalm 119:143 Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.

We throw the word of God away to our own peril. It is the only thing in these last days that we can hold onto.

  • Psalm 119:144 The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.

God is everlasting and so is His word.

KOPH

  • Psalm 119:145 I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.
  • 146 I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies.
  • 147 I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.

Prevailing in prayer until the dawn of the day happened because this writer was determined to seek God no matter who else did not. His hope was in the word.

  • Psalm 119:148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

He desired God's word above sleep.

  • Psalm 119:149 Hear my voice according unto thy lovingkindness: O LORD, quicken me according to thy judgment.
  • 150 They draw nigh that follow after mischief: they are far from thy law.

The more we seek God, the more we will see wrong things around us.

  • Psalm 119:151 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
  • 152 Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

RESH

  • Psalm 119:153  Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law.
  • 154 Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word.

Again here is another reminder that the word quickens or makes alive the soul and spirit. We need God, folks. We need this quickening of our spirits daily. We need revived spiritually. Our destiny and the destiny of our families depend on it.

  • Psalm 119:155 Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not thy statutes.

If we do not seek God, we will be lost forever with no hope. We can't go on about our lives seeking our own things and neglecting our spiritual condition without suffering eternal consequences.

  • Psalm 119:156 Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to thy judgments.

Still in all this, God is merciful and desires to save all that will come to Him.

  • Psalm 119:157 Many are my persecutors and mine enemies; yet do I not decline from thy testimonies.

We must be determined to serve God no matter who opposes us.

  • Psalm 119:158 I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.

When we are living right with God, sin will grieve us. We will cry and mourn over those that do not keep the word.

  • Psalm 119:159 Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness.
  • 160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

God endures forever, His word endures forever and He does not change. If we want everlasting life and salvation, we must take heed of the word of God. We can actually get to the place where we will rejoice at the sound of His word just like the Psalmist did.

Jesus is the word made flesh. Jesus is the savior God sent to us to bring us back into the right relationship with God. Jesus is the answer to a lost world. He is the only way.

  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only be
  • 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
  • 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
  • 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
  • 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
  • 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Let us come to Christ today and start listening to what He has to say to us by reading the word of God. Psalm 119 reminds us of the importance of that word. We can search the entire earth and gain all the riches we can obtain but if we neglect the word, we still have nothing. DC
