Psalm Chapter 122

A Song of degrees of David.

  • Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

Do we feel that way? Our we glad when someone asks us to go to the place of worship? Worship should never be boring. It also should never have to depend on talented musicians and singers. Those are a plus and very nice to have but we shouldn't have to depend on that for worship. The disciples never had those things. Yet, since God is not boring, church doesn't have to be boring.

If it is boring to us the first place we must look is inside ourselves. Have we been constant in prayer at home so that when we get to church we are ready for public worship? If not then church could be a little boring. Satan loves to distract us and hinder our worship services, so we need to pray for every service. The next thing to look to is who is teaching and preaching. Are they teaching the truth? If the leaders and the worshippers are in the right frame of mind to worship, the service will not be boring. Every public worship service should be preceded by prayer. Instead of criticizing the pastor, the song leader or Sunday School teacher, try praying for them before every church service. We will get out of our worship services what we put into it.

  • Psalm 122:2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
  • 3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
  • 4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.

Jerusalem use to be the place for worship. Now we do not depend upon that place for we worship in spirit and in truth. The place makes no difference.

  • John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
  • 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Because of Jesus Christ we now can have access to God anywhere in the world or outside of our world if we happen to be in a space ship. When one repents of sin and comes to Jesus Christ for salvation, he or she can pray anywhere and anytime. I really am thankful for this gift from God given to those who believe.

Still Jerusalem is an important place. That is why religions have fought over it for years. Yet if we understood the truth of worshipping in spirit and in truth we would not be so troubled by who occupies Jerusalem. God will send back His Son Jesus Christ who will rule over the whole world from Jerusalem until the day God brings down the New Jerusalem from above. Glory to God for this promise.

  • Psalm 122:5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

This is a prophecy of the future son of David, Son of God, Jesus Christ that will rule from Jerusalem.

  • Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Meanwhile we must pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those that love and respect this place will prosper. Some may think this means material prosperity and it could but I am inclined to think that it means spiritual prosperity. Perhaps both applies.

  • Psalm 122:7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
  • 8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
  • 9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.

When Christ rules Jerusalem will prosper both spiritually and in riches. There will be peace like never before. One day armies will surround Jerusalem again and try to take over that city. Jesus Christ will stop them by His Second Coming. No more will Jerusalem or Israel be threatened by invaders after the coming of Jesus Christ. The true Prince of Peace will not be someone from the earth who claims power, miracles and prosperity but it will only be Jesus Christ Himself.

We can be partakers in the things to come if we accept this Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ in our hearts now. He is coming to rid the world of sin and set up His Kingdom of Peace. We can have that peace in our hearts by faith now. Since sin cannot enter into the coming kingdom, we must repent (turn from) sin and allow Jesus Christ to take that sin away. There is no other way to be saved. Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. In order for that sacrifice to count on our behalf we must repent of sin and believe in Jesus Christ.

  • Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

You can be assured that you will inherit eternal life. It is not by just being a good person or doing great deeds, it is by simple faith in Jesus Christ. It is so simple that children can believe and be saved. God made a plan that is available to all. Rich, poor, weak, strong, sick, well, black, white, educated, uneducated. Anyone can be saved and have eternal life.
