Psalm Chapter 125A Song of degrees.
Those the trust in the Lord shall abide forever. Faith has a great deal to do with our survival. If we had to cross a bridge to save ourselves from a natural disaster, we would have to have faith that the bridge would not fall. If we didn't believe the bridge was safe, we would not go across and maybe perish in the disaster that was taking place on the side that we happened to be on. Faith in Jesus Christ is what saves our souls from eternal damnation. Faith is powerful. The faith that saves the soul is faith in God. We have faith in God to save us from eternal death and grant us eternal life. God made a plan for all mankind to be saved. He sent Jesus to pay the penalty for the sins of all mankind. Jesus paid the price for every sin committed in the past and in the future. In order for us to be forgiven of sin and inherit this eternal life though, we have to believe. We have to have faith in Jesus Christ and the work He did on our behalf. We have to believe that He first died for our sins, was buried and rose from the grave. He was resurrected to show forth victory over the power of death that all who believe in Him might also be resurrected and live eternally. All this is by faith. We can't be saved unless we believe this. You might wonder how would we get a heathen person to believe in the resurrection since they've never seen a resurrection. By the power and witness of the Holy Spirit. When the word of God is preached, the Holy Spirit accompanies the word and makes it come alive in the heart of the listener. The Holy Spirit convicts the sinner and causes him or her to acknowledge that they have sinned. If they yield to the wooing of the Spirit they will be granted the faith they need to receive Jesus the very Son of God and be saved. If they resist the Holy Spirit they will remain in sin and be lost. God actually gives us the faith to be saved. We are not puppets though. We can resist the Spirit of God by our own free will given to us by God at creation. The first verse assures all who trust in the Lord will abide forever. When we study the bible we can begin to understand what it means to fully trust in the Lord.
This also comes about by faith. The Lord was with Israel but when Israel showed unbelief and begin to worship idols, the Spirit of God was not with them as strongly as when they were fully trusting in Him. Faith reaches the heart of God.
God rewards those that seek Him. Do we pray a quick prayer out of habit and do not really take time to seek God? He knows the difference. Faith will cause us to diligently seek the Lord.
As we see from history, wicked rulers do not last long. God will bring them to nothing. He allows wicked nations to exist so long and then they are stopped. This God has to do to keep the righteous from being too greatly influenced or overwhelmed by wickedness.
In history we see that peace has not been upon Israel yet the Psalmist says that all nations that work iniquity will not prevail but peace shall be upon Israel. This is a prophecy of end times when Jesus Christ returns and Israel receives Jesus as their long awaited Messiah. Peace will then come to Israel. All before this will be a false peace. Man cannot bring real peace. Any peace before the literal coming of Jesus the Christ will be temporary or false. God wants peace just as much as any of us do but in reality, according to scripture it will not come until Jesus returns. We are to pray for the peace of Jerusalem but not be fooled by someone coming along and claiming he or she can bring peace. They can try but it will not be a lasting peace. This does not mean that we can't work for peace, pray for peace and do all we can to live in peace because the bible also says in Hebrews to follow peace with all mean and holiness without which no man can see the Lord. To sum up this psalm, the wicked will not rule in the end times but the righteous will. Evil will be put out and Jesus Christ will rule. We do not have to wait for the literal return of Jesus Christ to have Christ rule our hearts now. That is what is so beautiful about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We don't have to wait until Jesus returns again to get to know who He really is. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus can dwell within us today through the Holy Spirit that is given to those that believe in Him. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. Saved from what? Saved from sin which brings eternal damnation. Sin is washed away by the blood Jesus shed on the cross. Sin is forgiven and forgotten by God when He sees the Passover blood of Jesus covering our sins. DC
