Psalm Chapter 126

A Song of degrees.

  • Psalm 126:1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

Israel was once captive to Egypt. The Lord saved them by the hand of Moses. They rejoiced and were glad. This happened again many times. They were freed from the captivity of Babylon also but were later ruled by the Medes, Greeks and then Romans. For years they had no country until 1948. When Israel became a nation again it was a miracle. Yet they still face enemies on every side of them.

Their final deliverance has not yet been fulfilled (November, 2025). Some say it will happen at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ when only God will be able to save them. According to some scholars of bible prophecy, the United States will have been destroyed or made weak so that Israel has no help and then Jesus Christ alone will save them by the power of God. Others say that God will use the United States to help Israel.

Whether or not it will happen that way, I don't know but I do know that when Israel turns to Jesus Christ they will achieve victory and peace. Until then only trouble awaits them according to the bible. I will add here though that woe to any nation or people that are the ones that cause trouble for Israel. Israel is the only nation guaranteed to exist in the latter days. The rest of the nations will exist if they do not come against Israel and obey the word of the Lord.

  • Psalm 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

This will happen in the latter days when all enemies of righteousness will be defeated and Jesus Christ will set up an eternal kingdom where righteousness will prevail.

  • Psalm 126:3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
  • 4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.

This will be fulfilled in the future.

  • Psalm 126:5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

When we grieve over sin, when we pray for our loved ones and our nation to return to God and repent of sin, it causes tears and sorrow. We know that sin destroys and separates us from God. We know the way to be free from sin and be reconciled to God. Yet it is grievous to see so many ignore our words now just as they did in the days of Jeremiah, Isaiah, Noah and Moses.

Many did not recognize Jesus when He came to His own people. They were looking for a king, not a savior from sin.

During the Middle ages the church got away from the original teachings of the word of God and became organized so much that they substituted the teachings of man for the gospel. After Martin Luther got us out of that error, the Reformation started and things got better for a while until some of those people fell away from the truth. John Wesley and others brought back a revival of the truth of God's word. In the late 1800s and the early 1900s, in different parts of the world, we had a renewal of the Holy Spirit baptism they had on the day of Pentecost recorded in the book of Acts. Azusa Street was just only one. In the late 1800's there were some in North Carolina that received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That church later became the Church of God. Other places were Armenia and England I believe. I'm sure there was others.

Now we live in a day where materialism, riches, cares of this life is choking the word of God. We need another reformation, a revival and a return to the word of God. When is the last time we wept over the lost soul of a neighbor or family member?

Repentance, holiness and godly living is an unpopular message. It is left out of most sermons we hear today. Yet the bible still speaks of it.

We are now not supposed to be negative yet Jeremiah was negative, Isaiah was negative, Peter, John, Paul, Jude had many negative messages of warning. Jesus Himself was the most negative one of all. Yes, He spoke of comfort and eternal life but look at His warnings in the first 3 chapters of Revelations. His warnings are to the churches to repent of being lukewarm, of committing fornication, allowing false teaching, leaving their first love and other things. He commanded them to repent. He commands us to repent. Just as a sinner has to repent and ask Jesus to come into their lives to be saved so does the church have to repent if they return to the sin Jesus Christ saved them from.

Don't take my word for anything though. Search the scriptures and see what it says for yourselves. Don't pick out a few choice verses taken out of context, study it all. In it you will see that without holiness, no one will see the Lord. We will see that when we walk in the spirit we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. We will read that when we receive Jesus Christ old things pass away and all things become new.

  • 2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This will bring true joy, peace, love and gratefulness. I'm not advocating doom and gloom but the true joy of the Lord.

  • Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

  • Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

To those who are faithful, continue in the word and prayer. If we are faithful we will reap the fruit of many souls being saved and coming to Jesus Christ for salvation.  -DC
