Psalm Chapter 134
A Song of degrees.
- Psalm 134:1 Behold, bless ye
the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand in
the house of the LORD.
- 2 Lift up your
hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.
- 3 The LORD that
made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.
An important part of worship is praising the
Lord and being thankful for His salvation that He offered freely to
all who will receive this wonderful gift. This salvation came to us at a very high cost to Jesus
the Messiah.
There is so
much to praise the Lord for:
- That He gave His Son and allowed
His Son to become the second Adam. The first Adam brought sin
upon mankind, the Second Adam died when He didn't deserve the
penalty of death. His death was a sacrifice for all our sins. We
who believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead
and we who are willing to confess Jesus before men believing Him
to be our Lord and savior, will be saved from sin and enter
eternal life.
- That He provided us with a book or
record of the law, the promises and the story of Jesus.
In a volume of a book tells the story of salvation and eternal
life. A book that shows us what sin is and then how to be rid of
that sin and make it so that the past sins we have done will not
be held against us because of the sacrifice for sin, Jesus
our Christ.
- Thankful that many were willing to
suffer and die to spread this gospel in the midst of persecution
and death. They did it for us in this day and age so that we
might believe and receive the gospel. Had they quit at the first
sign of trouble like some of us would probably do, we would not
have heard the gospel and we would not be saved.
- I want to add to this by saying
praise the Lord for my dear Dad who never once wavered in his
faith in Jesus the Lord. He never once denied holiness as the way
of life. He never once failed to teach me that the bible was the
literal word of God and still relevant in this day and age.
Because of my dad, I received Jesus at an early age.
So we can be thankful and praise the Lord for parents and
grandparents to paved the way before us.
- Every time I started down a wrong
path, God was there to strike at my conscience with warnings. He
was there at a time when my bicycle was headed for a drop off
with sharp bushes that could have left me badly hurt or blind. I
closed my eyes to brace myself for the crash which never came.
When my eyes were opened I was headed safely in the right
direction. Who knows why I escaped? I did say the name of Jesus
as I closed my eyes but perhaps Dad might have been praying that
the Lord would watch over his children. So we can praise the
Lord for things that come about and we don't know why we were
spared. These things happened to us more than once.
- I'm thankful to God for the time
when my dad felt a strong urge to pray not realizing at that
same moment that I was in danger of being molested by a
neighbor. Something told me to back away and not go with the
neighbor. We found out years later that the man was arrested for
molesting a child. Again we can be thankful someone obeyed the
Lord and prayed. I do not understand why God uses those that
intercede in prayer but when we feel the Holy Spirit urging us
to pray, let's do it immediately.
- I'm thankful also for the Holy
Spirit that God sent to me after I became a believer in Jesus. That I am never alone and always have someone to teach
me and remind me to pray and seek God. He makes the word come
alive and be exciting. God is not boring believe me. I'm
thankful also for the gift of
the Holy Spirit that Jesus sends to those that are
saved by His grace. We are never left alone.
This psalm reminds us to lift our hands in
praise and thanksgiving being unashamed of the gospel or of the
Christ who saved us. We can be thankful to have a church or
sanctuary where we can worship God with others. For those of us who
still have freedom to worship God in our own way, we can truly be
thankful for some in other parts of the world do not have this
freedom.
Imagine that in some countries, one can be
arrested and jailed just for believing in Jesus as the Christ. I read
somewhere on the Internet that Anabaptists were once drowned because
they did not believe in infant baptism. It makes me so grateful that
God has allowed us to have the freedom to worship. We need to take
advantage of that because that day may be coming to a close.
If we compromise and go along to get along we
may not suffer persecution but if we stand for the truth and obey
God rather than man we might suffer hardship here but afterwards we
will have a reward no man can take away. Also others will be saved
by our faithfulness. If we are not faithful souls could be lost. Yes
there is a lot to praise the Lord for. If we stop the very rocks may
have to cry out in praise. I don't want the rocks to have to
praise God on my behalf but I want to praise the Lord with my own
voice. Praise the Lord. DC
