Psalm Chapter 145

David's Psalm of praise.

  • Psalm 145:1  I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.
  • 2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

If we stop and think of how great God is, we couldn't grasp it all. He is truly worthy of all our praise. Think just of His gift of salvation. He sent Jesus to die for our sins by paying the price for sin. Sin brought the sentence of death upon all. Not only physical death but spiritual death is caused by sin. Hell had to be created to be a place where the devil and his followers will one day abide so that they can no longer influence the world. Souls who have sinned are destined to go there unless they let Jesus cover their sins with His righteousness.

God, does not want anyone of us to enter Hell. He wants to save as many as He can. He sent Jesus to save us from sin so that we will not enter Hell but have eternal life in Heaven. At the point of our physical death, our soul will enter one place or the other. The soul does not cease to exist at the death of the body. God allowed His only Son to die and pay the punishment for sin when He did not deserve the punishment for sin. Jesus never once sinned against the law of God. His death can count on our behalf if we believe in Him and receive what was done for us.

That alone is enough to praise God for. If Jesus had not have come in the flesh and died for sins, we could not be saved.

Not only can we praise God for His provision of salvation but for another great and mighty thing. Not only do we inherit eternal life but we can have the Holy Sprit to dwell with us while we are still upon the earth in our natural body. Jesus went back to heaven but He did not leave us alone to fend for ourselves. He sent us a helper to dwell with each and every believer. We can be baptized in the Holy Spirit. We are then never alone. For all these things we can't praise God enough.

  • Psalm 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

There is no way we can grasp the full greatness of God.

  • Psalm 145:4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

It is so important that we teach our children. It is sad to hear it said, "There arose a generation that knew not God."

This does not have to be if we diligently teach our children the true word of God and live the example before them.

  • Psalm 145:5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.
  • 6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.
  • 7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

I'm glad that God is righteous. I'm glad He is holy and just. It is enough to cause us to sing.

  • Psalm 145:8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
  • 9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
  • 10 All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.
  • 11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;
  • 12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.
  • 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

This is true and God took great care to make us a part of that kingdom. He will not force us to repent and follow Jesus the Christ. We can choose to ignore all these good things. We don't have to die in sin, we can be free and be part of God's kingdom that will be without sin. It will be without death, without sorrow and suffering. God is good to provide all these things for us. It is not His will that any should perish.

  • 2Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

  • Psalm 145:14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

We hide nothing from God. He sees our every act. He knows our innermost thoughts.

  • Psalm 145:15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

God's provision for our daily bread is also worthy of praise.

  • Psalm 145:16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

God cares for all who trust in Him. From the beginning God made a plan to give food and water to all including the animals. When sin entered the world things started to go wrong. He had to send Jesus to make it right again. At His first coming, Jesus had to make the sacrifice for sins. At His second coming the world we be make right again.

  • Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
  • 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
  • 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
  • 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
  • 10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

That root of Jesse, the Son of David, the Son of God is none only but Jesus Christ.

  • Psalm 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

If we could only understand all truth, we could never find any fault with God.

  • Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

God hears when we call upon Him in truth. If we have sin and lies within us, He is not obligated to hear unless we repent. Repent means more than to be sorry for sin but to be willing to change and turn from sin. Since Jesus paid the price for us to be free from sin, we must believe in Him to have eternal salvation. That is why there is no other way of salvation but through Jesus Christ because He is the one who God sent to die for our sins. Jesus is actually God coming in the flesh. He is the same and one with God.

  • Psalm 145:19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
  • 20 The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

Unfortunately many do not like to think of a place called Hell but God cannot allow wickedness to continue forever. I know to us with limited knowledge, it seems like wickedness has always been in existence. The earth may be billions of years old according to old earth scientists but mankind is not old. We couldn't be more than 6 or 7 thousand years old. In light of eternity, that is just a short time.

We will exist forever in one place or another. It is our free will or choice that decides where we spend eternity. Good deeds and good works alone cannot save our souls. We must believe in the sacrifice Jesus made for us in order for that sacrifice to count on our behalf. All have sinned. Sin is breaking the law of God. It just takes one sin to condemn our souls forever. That is the law. We can be free by just simply believing in Jesus Christ and repenting (Turning from sin).

  • Psalm 145:21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

This is enough to praise His holy name for ever. We cannot save ourselves. We cannot do enough good things to justify ourselves. God made a perfect way. When we come to Jesus Christ, we are given help. We are given a new spiritual heart. We now can have the power to live righteous and holy. Our desires, wants and goals change. Satan tries to tempt us to go back under the bondage of sin but the Holy Spirit is given to us to keep us abiding in Christ and not return to the bondage of sin. We always have that free will to choose. What is our choice going to be? DC
