Psalm Chapter 146

  • Psalm 146:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
  • 2 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

We must never stop doing this. God is worthy of our every praise and our constant worship in prayer, in song and in the spirit. We need this fellowship and walk with God. We are the ones that cut ourselves off from God's presence when we neglect these good things.

God desires to dwell and walk among us. It is we who many times neglect this important, vital part of our daily lives. Come let us worship and praise Him for He is worthy of all our praise.

  • Psalm 146:3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

If our trust, hope and thoughts are in mankind, it will fail. If our dreams are just in what we accomplish in this life, it will be for nothing. Some seek higher education which is not wrong in itself but if that is all, it is for nothing. Some seek to excel in sports, which may not be wrong but if that is all, it is for nothing. Some seek wealth, some seek fame but if that is all, it is for nothing. It is all vanity and it will perish.

If our hope is in the Lord and our feet our planted on the solid rock of Jesus Christ, our lives will be fruitful. In light of eternity, it profits everything. When we live for God, not only will we be saved from sin and inherit eternal life but we will influence all we come in contact with to do the same.
Let us not lose the next generation. Let it not be said of our children that there arose a generation that knew not God.

  • Psalm 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

Looking to man, to the president, to the king, to the congress, to the minister, to the teacher or to the executive is for nothing. Their works end when they quit this present life.

  • Psalm 146:5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
  • 6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:

This is what counts, this is what matters. This is the answer to every single problem that we face upon the earth we live in.

  • Psalm 146:7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:
  • 8 The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:
  • 9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
  • 10 The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD.

Verses 7 through 10 is a prophecy of the coming reign of Jesus Christ upon the earth. In His righteous reign, there will be no one suffering in prison, none without food or none oppressed by wicked men. The widows will be relieved, the orphan will be comforted.

Only the wicked shall be turned aside and punished for their oppression of the righteous.

Woe to them who may be at this present time be persecuting those that preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Lift not your hand up against God's people. I know there are those that claim to be preaching the gospel when instead they are false brethren, but be very careful how you deal with them because you might be hurting a true child of God. We will answer to God.

Judge everything by the word of God. If someone speaks falsely, speak out against the doctrine that is false but be careful not to hurt them as a person.. Do not hurt or harm anyone for preaching Jesus Christ. Do not harm the Jewish people because God is going to graft them into the vine from which they strayed away. Do not harm those that believe different than you do.

Pray, preach, testify and do works of righteousness but let us never be guilty of harming one person who disagrees with us. Be firm, be full of truth but with meekness, kindness and compassion. In doing so we may save the lost. If only one soul is saved, it is worth the cost.

When we fail to live righteously while claiming to be a Christian, we may cause some to reject the gospel and think of Christianity as a cruel religion. Yes, we must stand against sin but without losing our compassion. We also must be careful not to substitute our own doctrines in place of bible doctrines.

I talked to a lady once who said she stopped going to church because of what someone else did that claimed to be a Christian but was not living what she claimed to be. My reply to her was that, the person that caused offense did not die for her sins, Jesus did. We must keep our eyes focused on Jesus, not on the failures of our brethren or sisters in the Lord.

I read where at one time people were put to death for not believing in infant baptism, for printing the bible in a language all could read, for standing against sin and preaching the truth. This should not be among us who believe. Let us not substitute a religion for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Let us not hate those that oppose us but pray for their salvation.

God will show us the way if we seek only Him. He has a better way of doing things without compromising our faith and without losing our compassion.

The enemy of our souls, the devil, tries to get us to fail in one way or another. He will either try to get us to compromise our faith and become like the world or else he will get us to hate the world so much we withdraw from it and fail to give them the gospel. Another trick is to get us to lose our compassion for the lost or to bite and devour our fellow believers because they may believe a little differently.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit we can have compassion but still not compromise. We can live in the world but not be part of it. If anyone of us lacks wisdom, God will provide it for us, if we ask Him. He provided the word, let us read and study every part of it.
