Psalm Chapter 147

  • Psalm 147:1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

And He is worthy of our praise. Taken from a modern day song, He is altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful. We cannot praise Him enough if we started today and kept it up into eternity.

  • Psalm 147:2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
  • 3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
  • 4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

Here we have a prophecy of the re-gathering of Israel. The nation of Israel was reborn in 1948 but the fulfillment of this gathering will be at the visible 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ. This will be a day of great rejoicing that the world has never before seen. All pain, death and sorrow will have past for all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and love His appearing.

I realize that Israel as a nation has not yet come to acknowledge Jesus as their Messiah in it's entirety but glory to God, they will. Israel will be grafted into the vine that they were cut off from. It will happen and nothing can stop it. Some of us in this generation may live to see that day come.

In fact, we already see many in Israel recognize Jesus Christ as their Messiah. We call them Messianic Jews. As a whole nation though it has not happened in full yet. It is now November 2025 as I am updating this.

All of us who are ready spiritually and have been "born again" by the spirit of God will see that day come for we also will be with Jesus when He sets up His kingdom on earth. A Kingdom that shall never end. All sin will be done away with and those that refuse to repent and turn from sin will perish forever. That is why Jesus came the first time to take away sins by making Himself a sacrifice or offering for sin. He comes the second time to set up His kingdom. This will be literal with Jesus as the ruler. We do not set this up ahead of His coming. Until that day the kingdom is within each and every believer. We preach the kingdom coming but the Lord will literally set up the kingdom in person.

  • Psalm 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
  • 6 The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

This is being fulfilled and will be fulfilled at His second coming.

  • Psalm 147:7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

There are those now all over the world that are suffering for the cause of Jesus Christ. We do not hear of it in the main stream news media but it is happening. Many are killed, put in prison and persecuted for preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their suffering is only temporary. In eternity, those who suffer now will be comforted forever and have eternal life with God. Those that persecute them and kill them now will be the ones to suffer the fires of hell for eternity if they refuse to repent and receive the Lord Jesus. Christ came to take away their sins and the sins of the whole world. You will not get away with persecuting any child of God, great or small.

  • Psalm 147:8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
  • 9 He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
  • 10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
  • 11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

God is pleased when we fear Him. When we hold Him in high esteem and reverence, it gladdens His heart. This is enough to start to praise Him from our hearts with gladness. This is what made Paul and Silas sing when they were in prison with their feet in the stocks.

  • Acts 16:22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
  • 23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
  • 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
  • 25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
  • 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
  • 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
  • 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

They could sing even while in chains because they knew the suffering here was only temporary. Notice Paul didn't even leave when he had the chance because he was more concerned about preaching Jesus to the jailers than escaping.

  • Psalm 147:12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
13 For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.
14 He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
15 He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.

Many are trying their best to stop the spreading of the word even in the United States. His word will go forth bringing fruit and there is nothing the anyone can do to stop it. It will go forth with fire burning away the chaff of sin. We cannot quench it and it shall not be stopped.

  • Psalm 147:16 He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
  • 17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
  • 18 He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
  • 19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

This is another prophecy when Israel shall hear the word of God.

  • Psalm 147:20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

The Lord saves, the Lord heals, the Lord brings forth the word through chosen vessels. The Lord also brings vengeance against those that oppose the gospel. Let me say here that God is the one that brings vengeance. We as believers in Jesus Christ are never to execute vengeance in the name of God. We are commanded to go into all the world and preach the gospel. We are not commanded to force, hurt, make slaves, kill or in anyway harm those who oppose the preaching of the gospel. God will do that.

We are to bring people to repentance and have compassion on the lost. During the middle ages the church made the biggest mess of things when they tried to force people to become Christians. We must never, never ruin the message of the gospel by losing our compassion and bringing judgment upon unbelievers. Shame, shame on us when we act in such a manner. God is the only one that can possibly judge fairly, we cannot.

True conversion to any religion is not true conversion if it is forced upon anyone. True conversion come into the heart. True conversion to Jesus Christ comes by being born again by the spirit of God. It cannot be done any other way. This is something that happens inside the soul and spirit. It is not outward. Let us obey the Lord and do things that He commands not act in the flesh and do things contrary to the will of the Spirit of God. God has a better way if only we would listen to Him. DC
