Psalm Chapter 53

To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David.

  • Psalm 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Oh the fellowship, oh the joy of knowing the Lord our God. There is nothing on the face of the whole earth to compare with the joy of walking with the Lord on a daily basis. Those that refuse this good way are absolutely missing something that is greater than anything they can ever experience in their world of unbelief. I say to the atheist who deny there is a God who created us and to those that do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah, you are really missing something great.

The influence of TRUE Christianity can be seen all over the earth. I say true because I recognize one can get away from that first love and begin to get a religious spirit that starts to become controlling and harsh. These tend to substitute the commandments of men in place of God's commandments and do more evil than good.

TRUE Christianity brings forth good. Hospitals, acts of mercy, missions, improvements in prisons and many good works have been done by those who know the Lord and use their knowledge of the Lord to reach out to the suffering. This is not limited to one Denomination but to many. Catholics, Protestants and Jewish organizations have done much to help the poor, needy, sick and suffering.

Without the fear of God though the world gets very corrupt. This corruption is not limited to atheists though, it comes upon Christians who have departed from their first love and have allowed sin back into their lives. We become unfruitful and open to evil when we get away from the teachings of the scriptures in context.

If you take a look at nations that have no fear of God, you will see people living in fear. You will see evil called good and good called evil. There ignore and reject the word of God. They have no compassion upon human suffering. They use control and not love to rule their citizens. God has a better way. Two commandments really is all we need.

The first commandment is to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all they soul and all thy mind - If we do this, we will not have other gods before him, we would not neglect the days of worship and we would walk with Him. There would be no idolatry and we would certainly not take His name in vain.

The other commandment is to love thy neighbor as thyself - If we did this one, we would not commit adultery, we would not steal, we would not kill, we would not bear false witness, we would not covet other people's goods, we would honor our parents.

Do you realize the power in these two commandments? This would solve the problems in the whole world if everyone would keep just these two.

  • Psalm 53:2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
  • 3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

It is sad that the majority that God sees are corrupt already. All have sinned and all of us need a savior. Without God we become defiled, filthy and corrupt. We are incapable of doing good. This is why we needed Jesus Christ to die for our sins and give us the Holy Spirit to enable us not to return to the sin that He saves us from.

So many refuse this good way.  If you tend to follow the majority or follow the crowd, your more likely to be wrong.

  • Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
  • 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

This way is Jesus the Messiah (Christ). Fully coming to Jesus and turning your whole life over to Him is the only way of salvation.

  • Psalm 53:4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.

Workers of iniquity truly are the people in darkness. When Jesus came He brought light into the world. He brought a way out of the darkness. When we refuse Him, we abide in darkness, iniquity and confusion.

  • Psalm 53:5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.

Where there is no God, there is fear, crime increases, hate abides, lack of fairness rules and there is no peace. This describes the world today. We need the fear of God back in our countries and cities. We need people with compassion for the lost.

  • Psalm 53:6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

We should rejoice and pray for Israel for one day they will acknowledge the Messiah they now reject. They will discover who Jesus is and who is the only one who can save them. That day is coming. To those who already know Jesus our Christ, your captivity has already been removed. You have been set free from sin and are a new creature in Christ. Live for Jesus and refuse the devil's temptations that lead back into sin. Influence all you can to be saved and inherit eternal life. The nation of Israel will discover these things very close to the Second coming of Jesus Christ but even now individual Jewish people are coming to Christ already.  - DC
