Psalm Chapter 54

To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when the Ziphims came and said to Saul, Doth not David hide himself with us?

  • Psalm 54:1 Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.
  • 2 Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.
  • 3 For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.
  • 4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.
  • 5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
  • 6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good.
  • 7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

When one puts their whole trust in the Lord and makes sure that the Lord is his or her source of strength, it is the best insurance one can have in times of trouble.

David went through tough times. Some of it was because of his own past mistakes and sins. Some of it though was times when he was innocent and his enemies attacked him simply because of jealousy. If you read the accounts of David and the Psalms written by David you will see how His God was with him every step of the way.

What a glorious treasure to have. God will never forsake those that trust in Him. We may forsake Him but if we put our trust in Him, He never forsakes us. Even when we fail and we start reaping some bad seed that we sowed, God still forgives when we ask Him and restores us back into fellowship with Him.

How can we attain this walk with God and learn to trust in God?

First of all if we are not walking with God, have we been born again by His spirit? Jesus told us that we must be born again. The words of Jesus to Nicodemus was, "Ye must be born again."

We are not saved and inherit eternal life by inheriting our parent's religion. We are not saved by being baptized in infancy, we are not saved by someone else's prayers praying over us when we are dead, we are not saved by doing good deeds and helping the poor.

We are saved by grace.

How can we receive this grace?

First of all the bible says that all of us have sinned. All are born into sin. All of us who have reached the age of accountability have sinned. We all are lost and on our way to a burning hell because we have all broken God's laws at one time or another. The bible says, "The soul that sins shall die". This happened immediately following the creation of mankind.

When Adam and Eve believed the serpent instead of believing the word of God, sin entered the whole human race. Sin as God said would bring death. This death meant the physical body but also the soul which was created to live forever. Since the soul and spirit does not actually die in the sense that it ceases to exist as does the body; the soul had to go to a place where it could sin no more. That place is hell. Hell was created for the devil and his angels but if man sins as the devil did, the soul goes to hell at the point of death.

However before Jesus came to the earth, hell was divided into two compartments. One for the righteous and one for the evil ones. The righteous were comforted and the evil ones were tormented. The righteous were the ones that believed in God and tried their best to live by the word of God. However without help they could not be righteous. They looked forward by faith to the time when God would send a deliverer to pay the price for their sins.

This holy one was the very Son of God, Jesus the Messiah. Jesus was God the Son that came into the flesh as a baby born of a woman. He lived a sinless life and died in the place of ever one that had sinned, both past and present. Now we who believe and turn from our sin, can be saved and inherit eternal life instead of going to hell for our sins.

Sin takes all to hell. Forgiveness of sin and receiving Jesus the Christ or Messiah delivers from sin and gives us the hope of eternal life. This is why there is no other way to be saved. It is not because we want to go about touting that our religion is the only right way. NO. Notice that I try never mention the name of my church or religious affiliation. That is because as good as it may be, it is not the one that saves the soul from sin and gives you eternal life. The only one that can do that is Jesus.

The reason Jesus is the only way is because He was the one that came from heaven for that purpose. He came to live among us, feel how we feel, suffer how we suffer and still not sin. We cannot die for the sins of someone else if we sin ourselves. Jesus did not sin and did not deserve the penalty for sin. (death). Jesus was innocent. His death counts for us because he died undeserving of death.

God's law shows us what sin is. Sin brings death. Adam and Eve sinned and they died. All that came after them inherited the death and destruction of the soul that comes with sin against God. Jesus came to break that curse that the law brings. All who believe in Him and trust in Him are made free from the curse of the law. Eternal death.

Born again, free from sin. That comes by faith in Jesus Christ.

Now we have access to the Father in Heaven and can start to trust in Him in our daily lives. We now with the help of the Holy Spirit can begin to understand the word of God and live our new life in Jesus Christ. -DC
