Amos Chapter 2
The burning of the king of Edom may be referring to what is recorded in 2 Kings chapter 3. Apparently they hated this king so much that they offered him up as a sacrifice to one of their gods. Moab was a descendant of Lot the nephew of Abraham. They got into idolatry years later and worshiped these false gods. The Moabites are the ones that had a king who tried to get Balaam to curse Israel. God refused to go along with that so they devised a plan by which the daughters of Moab would entice the men of Israel into fornication so they could tempt them to depart from the real God and worship the idols of Moab. They were enemies of Israel just like Edom was. Judgment on Judah
This was fulfilled after the invasion of Babylon when Nebuchadnezzar took them captive. Also after their rejection of Jesus Christ they were completely destroyed as a nation in 70 AD and were scattered all over the world. Many settled around Germany and suffered during the Holocaust in the 1930s. After that God brought many of them back into their own land, and in 1948 even surrounded by those that hated them, they became a mighty nation again. During the great tribulation that is yet future, they will again either build another temple or have one already built by that time according to a few bible theologians. The man of sin, called the anti Christ will attempt to deceive the Jewish people into a 7 year peace treaty into which he breaks after 3 1/2 years and tries to get rid of the Jewish people once and for all. At that time Jesus will return with His faithful believers who were taken to Heaven with Him previous to this and Jesus will save the Jewish nation of Israel from any future attempt to destroy them again. They will get all their land back that was promised to Abraham and never lose it again but they have to recognize their king and Messiah, Jesus first. No one will ever harm Israel again after that.
This prophecy in Zechariah has not yet been fulfilled as of May 2025 but it will be. Judgment on Israel
Here we see how Israel lost their nation even before the nation of Judah was ended by the king of Babylon. They despied the poor and sold them. They sold the righteous. They got into idolatry and sexual sins against the law of Moses. Sexual sins are still a sin in the sight of God, even those of us that are not under the law of Moses. This is a stumbling block to all of us. We must avoid what God has warned against. We can be forgiven through the power of the gospel but fornication is something that is an abomination in the sight of God. We must stay away from that and also idolatry. It will destroy our very souls if we do not turn away from it. I will add abortion, despising the poor, and taking away land from the innocent. We must be very careful how we treat or what we teach children also.
Because of the sins of the Amorites and Canaanites, God gave their land to Israel. Now they did the same sins and lost their nation until 1948. They still have not gotten back all that was promised to Abraham.
I know the world doesn't like this promise to Abraham but we really do not have the power to stop what God ordains. We can't fight against God. This will come to pass although it hasn't come yet in full.
The Nazarites were under a vow not to drink wine. Apparently the kings of Israel began to persecute the real prophets of God. Also drinking wine was strictly forbidden within the house of God or temple.
The northern kingdom of Israel was lost before the southern kingdom of Judah by the invasion of Assyria. Judah was lost later by Babylon. They were restored again in part by the decree of Cyrus the Persian and other Persian kings and were called Israel but still under the power of the Empires that ruled. They lost the their nation fully in 70 AD until the latter days when God brought them back. But as of today they still have not returned wholly to God in full but they will.
The Coming of Christ is told of in Zechariah chapter 14 also. There are many places in the whole bible that tells of the latter day restoration of the nation of Israel. The gospel of Jesus though applies to all both Jews and Gentiles who will believe in Him. They will join Israel in the latter days and be with Jesus when He sets up His kingdom. Those saved before the latter day great tribulation will come back with Jesus Christ when He defeats the anti Christ and sets up His Kingdom. Many as I also do, believe in the pre tribulation rapture of what we call the Church which is simply the called out ones that received Jesus Christ into their lives previous to this latter day tribulation that is also called, the time of Jacob's trouble. -DC
