Amos Chapter 9Destroyed because of Continual Sin
All these prophecies were fulfilled. Those that sinned and turned to idolatry were cast aside and wiped out. Those that persecuted the prophets that warned them and tried to get them to repent they persecuted and killed. Those that refused the good way and rejected God's word after seeing the miracles in the wilderness, knowing about the parting of the Red Sea, having the law given through Moses preached to them, and those that did not teach these precepts to their children were now facing judgment. The prophetic warnings went unheeded after God would delay, send warnings and then delay again; but it finally had to come. Sin has to be stopped, not only for this nation but for all nations that forsake God and do evil.
They couldn't rely on their heritage or the fact that they were descendants of Abraham because their sins separated them from Abraham and the covenant God made with him. Just like we today cannot be saved from sin just because we had parents that loved God and made Jesus their Lord. We have to make that decision ourselves. Their prayers may follow us and the Holy Spirit may try to call us to salvation through Jesus but we ourselves have to make our own mind up and say yes or no to God's calling. If we are lost we cannot blame our parents or anyone else. The above scriptures show that God had to send judgment with a large flood that covered the whole earth because of continual sin that got to a point of no return. Only 8 people were delivered from that flood alive.
As we see from other scriptures, God will have a remnant from all the tribes. We see in Revelation that 144,000 is sealed from all the tribes in the future. We cannot substitute those people and make them something else. When the bible says Israel, it means Israel not an substitute like the church or another nation that calls themselves the new Israel. We have no right to do that. God knows one from another, we don't need to change that around to our own thinking.
God always has a people even among those that seemingly do evil continually.
Let us be among those that do not compromise, that stay faithful, that love God with all that is within us. The Restoration of Israel
This is my favorite chapter in the book of Amos. I love it when I read of the Lord bringing restoration to Israel. In 1948 we had a visible restoration but that is not the final one. That one was physical but they still as of April of 2025, have not received their Messiah but abide in unbelief as a nation. God has prospered them but they are continually surrounded by enemies. Their final everlasting victory will come when they recognize that the one their ancestors had rejected, the one called Jesus, Yeshua in Hebrew, is the very one that is the Messiah. He will return a 2nd time first to gather all those that previously believed in Jesus, both Jews and Gentiles. Those that have died previous to this coming and those that are alive on the earth at this coming will be taken out ahead of the final outpouring of the plagues that God sends upon those that persecuted His people. After that when more Jewish people finally recognize Jesus as their Lord, Jesus will return with all His saints to save the remnant of the Jewish people and rule on the earth. These prophecies are scattered throughout the Old and New Testaments and are meant to be read and understood but they will be hidden from those that do not believe. The wise shall understand.
This happens in full at the 2nd literal coming of Jesus the Christ to reign upon the earth. No matter who doesn't believe or who tries to hinder it, it will come. When God says to His Son Jesus, Go and return. Jesus will go and He will return. Nothing will stop this from happening. No armies are strong enough to stop the COMING OF THE LORD JESUS back to the earth. Even so Lord Jesus....COME. -DC
