Deuteronomy Chapter 27

  • Deuteronomy 27:1 And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.
  • 2 And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:
  • 3 And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.
  • 4 Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister them with plaister.
  • 5 And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.
  • 6 Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:

Again we see the importance of worshiping God and showing thanksgiving. This is for the good of all people because it helps us. It was vital for Israel and now for us to remember God and continually abide in His presence and keep His commandments. To abandon them is to our own peril as we see from reading Israel's history in the bible that Satan was always ready to devour Israel at the first opportunity. To go outside the safety net of God's protection is to invite the enemy into the camp to devour, kill and destroy both the soul and body of themselves and their children.

They were to use stones that were natural and not polished or made smooth in any way. This was one way to avoid them making any graven images which was forbidden under the law. To lift up their tools on the altar would pollute it. They were never to mimic or copy anything the heathen did to worship idols and images.

  • Deuteronomy 27:7 And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the LORD thy God.

A peace offering was for a time of rejoicing and peace with God similar to the peace we share after we come to believe in Christ and begin to have fellowship with Him in daily prayers, worship and praise.

  • Deuteronomy 27:8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Perhaps this is where we get the saying, "Written in stone". It was meant to be permanent so they would not forget. God's laws were to protect, save, heal and were for the good of all.

  • Deuteronomy 27:9 And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the LORD thy God.
  • 10 Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

This was for their good and to keep out evil. It would prevent disease and the sin that separated them from God's fellowship and presence. Immoral practices, jealousy, hatred, murder, child sacrifice and things the heathen did would destroy them.

  • Deuteronomy 27:11 And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,
  • 12 These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:
  • 13 And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
  • 14 And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
  • 15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

Making graven images to use in worship was a very serious abomination and insult to our creator. We must never compare God to an image made by our hands. We are not to make any images of Mary, Jesus, angels, saints or any other thing to use in worship and bow before. It was an insult and a sin. It would invite demonic presences into their midst and they would end up worshiping devils and doing all kind of immoral things that would destroy their nation and actually any nation. We might even get a religious feeling, mimicking religious worship but it will invite evil into our lives and any that use images in worship.

  • Deuteronomy 27:16 Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Taking care of our fathers and mothers is one commandment that promises long life. We are to respect them and support them in their old age as much as possible. Never are we to abandon them if they are in need.

  • Deuteronomy 27:17 Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

That would be stealing from a neighbor and trying to deceive by removing their proof of ownership. Nothing is worthy having if it takes from what belongs to someone else. Its not worth it. Life is too short to live it in such a way that we desire to gain by another person's loss. Instead the rule of giving with a heart that wants to help our neighbors is always the best way.

  • Deuteronomy 27:18 Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.

That commandment sort of speaks for itself. It would be very cruel to make the blind to wander out of the way that he come to harm. In fact that kind of thing will come back to harm us. We reap what we sow. He that lives by the sword shall die by the sword.

  • Deuteronomy 27:19 Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

A nation, a town, a city, a country is surely blessed if they have judges that are fair, honest and will never take bribes. I've read stories of horror when a politician can buy off judges to control verdicts. It is very evil and will be judged by God.

  • Deuteronomy 27:20 Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife; because he uncovereth his father's skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Whether it is his real mother or step mother this is an abomination and evil that will destroy whole nations.

  • Deuteronomy 27:21 Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.

This will bring in disease, confusion and much evil upon any nation. I read that in Canada this is allowed now. We will see the destruction of the nation of Canada if they do not repent and remove this evil from their midst.

  • Deuteronomy 27:22 Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
  • 23 Cursed be he that lieth with his mother in law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

The bible clearly teaches that incest, bestiality, adultery, men laying with men, women laying with women, fornication of any kind that God didn't ordain, will destroy a nation. The ones promoting it will claim liberty, love and freedom but it's not love and it will bring one's soul and body into bondage. Getting out of God's divine order will steal, kill and destroy. Satan has planned this to destroy God's creation.

  • Deuteronomy 27:24 Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen.
  • 25 Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.
  • 26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

So we see a picture of a wonderful, caring, compassionate God. Our creator, our savior and the one who really cares about us, making laws and commandments for the good of Israel. He later sent Jesus, the very Son of God to make the supreme sacrifice for sins offering up Himself to die for our sins so that by our faith in Him we can have forgiveness, eternal life and be filled with His Holy Spirit to abide with us and keep us out of the sin that can destroy our body, our soul, our spirit and our nation. This dear people is love, not what the politically correct world around us claims is love. The world's definition of love will destroy our whole nation. DC
