Ecclesiastes Chapter 12

Remember Your Creator in Your Youth

  • Ecclesiastes 12:1  Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
  • 2  While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
  • 3  In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
  • 4  And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

There is really nothing to sing and rejoice about if one does not know the Lord our God and our creaator.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:5  Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
  • 6  Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
  • 7  Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

When we reach an old age and are ready to depart this life, it is all for nothing if we lived that life without God. We enter eternity lost forever. Through Jesus, the one God sent to save us, this doesn't have to be. The old body dies yes, but those who come to Christ Jesus will have a new body that can never die. Jesus did it. He made a new and living way. Old things pass away and all things become new. We don't have to die without God.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:8  Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

Remember the creator in the days of youth. Remember God when one is young and healthy. When the days are good and prosperous, when life seems peaceful and trouble seems far away; that is the time when we should love and serve God. Waiting until things go bad and then call upon the Lord is a big waste of many years. Of course, it's better to call upon Him in trouble rather than not call upon the Lord at all but walking with God all the days of one's life is a good thing.

Because of Jesus, we can now have fellowship with God. When sin entered mankind, it separated us from God. Jesus came to make a way for our sins to be forgiven and covered. We can now walk with God daily. Happy are those that made the decision to follow God in the days of their youth. What wasted lives we live if we live them without God's Spirit dwelling within us. Surely as the preacher says. All is vanity but that is if we don't live for the Lord.

When a nation forgets God and teaches evolution instead of the divine creator, they don't realize how much they are giving up. How lost the people become without acknowledging their creator. They got into idolatry, they began to sacrifice their own children in the fire to those idols. Idols are images made by the hands of men. They cannot do us good or evil. They sit there and do nothing. Yet when people forsake God, they began to be deceived and lose their way. As a result suffering, disease, starvation, misery, wars and evil increased. We need God folks.

When the United States Supreme Court outlawed prayer and bible reading from public schools, they didn't know what in the world they were doing. That was the worst decision they ever made.

Fear God and Keep His Commandments

  • Ecclesiastes 12:9  And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
  • 10  The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
  • 11  The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
  • 12  And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
  • 13  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
  • 14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

There is a great increase in knowledge. College degrees abound. Education is one of the most important things to seek in the minds of the majority of people; yet without the knowledge of the Lord our creator, it is vanity and all for nothing. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of true knowledge and wisdom. Without Him all we do, say and think is for nothing and of no value. If we can just understand this and receive Jesus into our lives as soon as we hear those beautiful words He spoke to us, we will inherit life eternal and be part of His everlasting kingdom.

  • John 7:37  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
  • 38  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

When we love God with all our hearts, we will keep His commandments. We don't have to make a religion out of it and do it as a duty or religious ritual. When we learn to love God with all our hearts, keeping His word is a joy. It's not religion we need but fellowship and walking with God. When the Holy Spirit from God enters into our innermost being, we are born again by His Spirit. We start anew. We don't have to live in sin. -DC

  • Revelation 22:12  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
  • 13  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
  • 14  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
  • 15  For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
  • 16  I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
  • 17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
