Ecclesiastes Chapter 6

  • Ecclesiastes 6:1  There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:
  • 2  A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

Riches and wealth does not satisfy the soul and spirit of mankind. Envy, jealousy, covetness, complaining, unthankful, unholy and evil possesses so many and it's all vanity and for nothing. It profits nothing for our eternal dwelling place.

Oh if I could just get the message out. Jesus will satisfy the soul of both rich and poor alike. Jesus promises life eternal who all who just simply believes in Him. To really believe that He is the one God sent to save mankind, is necessary for salvation He saves us from an eternal destiny in a place called hell where sin is confined to that place and can't spread any longer. It's a done deal.

We don't have to end up there. Jesus made the way that we can be reconciled back to God the Father by being born again by the Holy Spirit. No one has to be lost.

  • John 6:28  Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
  • 29  Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

The gospel of Jesus is not complicated. It is simple, even a child can receive. BELIEVE on HIM whom HE (God) hath sent. That is Jesus.

  • Ecclesiastes 6:3  If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.
  • 4  For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.
  • 5  Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.

If a man lives with many children to a ripe old age and has not seen good but just evil, it is better for him not to have existed before. Life is meaningless to a person that lives in sorrow and sees nothing but evil. He is bored and has nothing to live for. This is a sad state to be in. Always in a sad mood and all for nothing.

Yet now we know this doesn't have to be. Jesus has a better way for all of us who just believes. There is a God that created good until evil crept in. Jesus came to undo all that. It takes time but trusting in Him will bring forth joy that is everlasting.

  • Ecclesiastes 6:6  Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?

This must mean the grave or death. Yet we now know that we don't all go to one place upon death. Those that are saved by grace and faith in Jesus go to be with Him. There is no soul sleep. Those without Christ go to a different place to await the final judgment.

  • Ecclesiastes 6:7  All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
  • 8  For what hath the wise more than the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?
  • 9  Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
  • 10  That which hath been is named already, and it is known that it is man: neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he.
  • 11  Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?
  • 12  For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

So many live in misery, covetness, unhappy, looking for pleasure in things that bring none. They avoid God, strive against God, teach evolution, seek to replace God with the philosophy of man. Yet he or she is never happy. They earn degrees, they seek wealth, they go to and fro and have nothing in the end. All this is for nothing. God gives us a better way.

  • Jeremiah 6:16  Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

One of the sadest quotes in the bible: "We will not walk therein."
This doesn't have to be. There is a better way. There is hope. His name is Jesus... -DC
