Leviticus Chapter 15

  • Leviticus 15:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and to Aaron, saying,
  • 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.
  • 3 And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.
  • 4 Every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.
  • 5 And whosoever toucheth his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 6 And he that sitteth on any thing whereon he sat that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 7 And he that toucheth the flesh of him that hath the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 8 And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 9 And what saddle soever he rideth upon that hath the issue shall be unclean.
  • 10 And whosoever toucheth any thing that was under him shall be unclean until the even: and he that beareth any of those things shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 11 And whomsoever he toucheth that hath the issue, and hath not rinsed his hands in water, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 12 And the vessel of earth, that he toucheth which hath the issue, shall be broken: and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water.
  • 13 And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.

Again we see the care of God toward this tiny nation of Israel by giving them instructions to prevent disease and teach them cleanliness both in body and spirit.

We sometimes may wonder why disease exists and why God cannot just heal everything. I believe it is because God does not force anything upon us but gives us a free will to choose. Israel had a free will to choose whether they wanted to abide by these laws that would make them safe from disease or they could choose to neglect them as we see later they did do when they began to follow after other nations and walk in idolatry.

Just as natural water cleanses the body, the living water provided by God when we exercise faith in Jesus Christ cleanses the soul. We are cleansed from the pollution of sin just as fresh clean water cleanses our bodies from dirt and filth. The soul that sins is dirty and unclean. The filth of sin separates us from God and has done so since the fall of man in the garden of Eden.

Since that time, God has sought to redeem mankind back to Himself but Satan has desired to rob us of our relationship with God and has desired that we worship him (Satan) instead. When we bow down to an idol, icon or any false religion, we are actually worshipping Satan.

  • Deuteronomy 32:16 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.
  • 17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

We can't make God into an image with our human mindset. To worship an object of some kind to represent God is an insult to God.

  • Psalm 106:36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.
  • 37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
  • 38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

Evil spirits are present when we attempt to use images and idols in worship. They may mimic true worship and we may even feel some religious presence but it is not God's spirit. He doesn't break His own commandments.

  • 1Corinthians 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

Actually secular humanism is on its way out. Years ago I had a feeling that one day evolution would be debunked and proven false. Yet, I knew in my heart that this would not cause people to seek God and remember the creator. Instead we have had a revival of New Age, false religion and alternative explanations for our existence. Repentance from sin and living in holiness through faith in Jesus Christ is not the way many will choose.

Along with faith in Jesus Christ is cleansing from sin. Sin is the culprit that is causing us problems so sin had to be removed. The blood of animals was only a temporary remedy to remind them of their need for a savior and prepare them to receive the Messiah when He came.

Along with faith in Jesus to save from sin is the power of the Holy Spirit to give us victory over sin.

To preach a watered down gospel message that does not turn people from sin but just preaches an acceptance of Jesus is not the whole gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ saves us from sin.

To leave out repentance is to bring in another Jesus and another gospel that will not save but just be a watered down message that will cause us to merge with the false religions the devil is setting up in the latter days to replace the true gospel of Jesus so that in the end, mankind will worship Satan instead of God. This is anti-Christ which is even now in the world.

Satab has done this before and there is nothing new under the sun. In the days of the tower of Babel was a false religious system that polluted the human race and took them further away from God until God called Abraham to leave his father's house a land God chose to give to him and his descendents after him.

One of the names of the churches mentioned in Revelation, Pergamos, actually means, married to the tower. Satan was trying to deceive the church of that day into false worship similar to the rebellion at the tower of Babel.

This church existed in the region of Turkey in the days of John but also represents other churches that exist even today which is similar. If one believes in the seven churches also representing seven church ages, Pergamos would be the age which idolatry crept into the church to make it easier to convert the pagans to Christianity, however, I question whether anyone was really born again by the spirit at that time. Perhaps they just accepted another religion which they called Christianity. We are to receive more than just a religion, we are to receive forgiveness of sins, and a close relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus baptizes us with the Holy Spirit when we receive Him (Jesus) by faith and are cleansed from sin.

The early church was on fire for God for a while until they mixed with idols and the false Babylonian system during the early Middle Ages as I mentioned before above starting with the church at Pergamos. Christianity became polluted the same way until the rise of the Protestant Reformation. That too became polluted when church and state mixed until the rise of John Wesley and the preaching of holiness. Then came the latter day return of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the late 1800s and the early 1900s.

Now we see that some of that has become polluted and men are preaching "to gain in godliness". The prosperity doctrine has tried to infiltrate and ruin the charismatic movement but God still has a remnant and those that study and live by the word of God.

Old time Pentecostals are made fun of and accused of legalism while the mixture of increase with riches, a watered down gospel with no repentance, kingdom now and ecumenical (false unity) is the goal of the some in the  modern church. We living in a dangerous place to be easily deceived because many false teachings are already popping up all over the place as Christ warned us of.

God has always hated a mixture. He destroyed the false system at the tower of Babel. Yet there is a real thing called legalism that also destroys and pollutes just as bad as sin. We can't be saved by trying to keep the law that was fulfilled in Christ and ignore Christ's death, burial and sacrifice for sins. We also can't be saved just by turning over a new leaf, doing a few good deeds and living by man made laws. We need Jesus and all He gives us.

Jesus said that narrow is the way, not a mixture.

  • Mattew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
  • 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
  • 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
  • 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
  • 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
  • 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
  • 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
  • 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
  • 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
  • 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
  • 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
  • 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
  • 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock.
  • 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
  • 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Obedience to the law of Christ replaces trying to obtain salvation by any other way or religion. We live by the law of love that is found completely in Jesus Christ.

  • Leviticus 15:14 And on the eighth day he shall take to him two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, and come before the LORD unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and give them unto the priest:
  • 15 And the priest shall offer them, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD for his issue.

Now we see that once the man's issue was cleansed he needed spiritual cleansing also. This is still true today but we get the cleansing by way of Jesus Christ instead of depending on a priest to make offerings and sacrifices on our behalf. Jesus now is the only way to be cleansed of sin and reconciled back to our heavenly Father.

In reading these things, we see the great need to take heed to our spirit. We need to control disease and feed the hungry. We need to care for the poor and one another but the greatest need is that our soul is saved from sin and reconciled back to God so that we can have eternal life and be part of the coming Kingdom of Jesus Christ when He returns.

  • Leviticus 15:16 And if any man's seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 17 And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 18 The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.
  • 20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.
  • 21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.
  • 24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.
  • 25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.
  • 26 Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.
  • 27 And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
  • 28 But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean.

Again we see the need for cleanliness here. God taking great care to show the need to be clean when a woman has an issue of blood that she has once a month.

Even though we are under the gospel of grace and not under the old law of ordinances, we can learn from these things about being clean and preventing disease.

All these laws on cleansing really lead us to Jesus Christ and show us the need for the cleansing of the soul from sin, we can also glean from these teachings the need to prevent disease by keeping our bodies clean. Unnatural sex acts or anything unnatural can cause disease to spread. Anything that mankind does that God didn't ordain or create will cause disease. This is why the law is good and holy.

God doesn't make laws to destroy but to save. He is out for our good, not our evil. When we read the law that was given to Israel, I see love, not hate. I see a God that wants them to be healthy but also a God that shows them their need to be saved from sin.

After their issues were cleansed they were to go to the priest and take care of the spirit by offerings and sacrifices pointing toward their need for Christ.

  • Leviticus 15:29 And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
  • 30 And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.
  • 31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.
  • 32 This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him whose seed goeth from him, and is defiled therewith;
  • 33 And of her that is sick of her flowers, and of him that hath an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.

God wanted to dwell with them in that tabernacle but they had to do many things to keep themselves clean so that God can dwell among them.

God will dwell with us today as individuals by way of the Holy Spirit that is given to those who have believed in His Son and have repented of sin. We can't leave out that repentance. Sin is what separates us from God and the sin has to be removed. That is why Jesus came. He came to pay for our sins and remove them from us so that we can be saved and brought back to God that we were separated from back in the days of Adam and Eve. We need the real living God and not a substitute that does not save from sin. DC
