Proverbs Chapter 8

  • Proverbs 8:1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

I notice that in the beginning of many chapters in Proverbs, the subject always comes back to wisdom and understanding. We can conclude that the wisdom and understanding being pushed forth is godly wisdom and godly understanding not the wisdom of this world. I believe sincerely that it was the wisdom of the world that was promised to Eve to tempt her to move away from the word of God.

  • 1Corinthians 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to naught:
  • 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
  • 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Had those who thought they had wisdom really had true wisdom, they would not have crucified Christ.

Those teaching evolution as fact, do not really have true wisdom or they would know that it is impossible to have two exact hands, two exact feet, two exact eyes, digestive system, heart, lungs, ears and I could go on........., happen by accident or even over a period of billions of years to have something from nothing without a planner or designer. It would be impossible.

They are blind to wisdom and the knowledge of God. It is not true wisdom that Satan promised to our first parents by Satan? It was not true godly wisdom but something that was rebellious against God.

  • Proverbs 8:2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
  • 3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

I picture the Spirit of God going forth crying out to the human race to repent and believe the gospel thereby receiving the true wisdom that leads souls to everlasting life.

After Jesus came to pay the price for sin to make the way of salvation available to all who believe, He sent the Holy Spirit to His believers. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin and leads us to Jesus and salvation. I believe His voice cries out constantly drawing and trying to bring us to salvation. It is the voice of God crying out to a dying world. He wants to save rather than destroy with judgment.

The day will come however, when judgment must come and all sin is defeated. He waits and waits to give us time to receive His plan of salvation. He waits while many mock, laugh and ridicule those preaching the gospel. He waits to see all who may possibly repent, and come to be saved. It is not His will that any should perish.

  • Proverbs 8:4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
  • 5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
  • 6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
  • 7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
  • 8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
  • 9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
  • 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

Truly what God has for those that seek Him can't even begin to compare to the riches of this life that we think are so important. It becomes natural for those that love God to begin to be grieved at sin. We might walk in a room where a TV set is blaring out stuff that glorifies sin as normal everyday life and we feel like turning around and walking away or turning the set off. If we get email that has profanity or nudity, we can't wait to delete it. It is appalling to a person who loves righteousness. We may sometimes be tempted but when we reject those times, we normally feel repulsed by sin.

  • Proverbs 8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
  • 12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
  • 13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

It is not wrong to hate evil. We must hate it, avoid it and if we find ourselves doing wrong, it should grieve us and bring us to repentance. No child of God should excuse himself for sins by saying, "I'm only human". That is a cop out. We must repent and keep ourselves in the love of God and the will of God.

  • Proverbs 8:14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
  • 15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

A nation that is lucky enough to have a wise ruler is blessed indeed. A wicked leader is a grief to all in his kingdom.

  • Proverbs 8:16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
  • 17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
  • 18 Riches and honor are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

Sometimes living right will bring us to riches. That may or may not happen. I truly believe that true riches are not material but those that come from God that can't be lost, stolen, or rusted. If that were not the case, it wouldn't be compared to gold.

  • Proverbs 8:19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
  • 20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

Nothing absolutely nothing is greater than God and the things He gives those that seek Him.

  • Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Righteousness and the love, joy and peace that comes from God is greater than all earthly riches.

  • Proverbs 8:21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
  • 22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
  • 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
  • 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
  • 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

Whatever this wisdom and true treasure was, it existed before the creation of the earth.

  • Proverbs 8:26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
  • 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
  • 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
  • 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
  • 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
  • 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
  • 32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

I feel like crying out myself. Hear all who will listen, hearken to the wisdom of God. Do not let the days pass in vain. We waste so much time in the pursuits that are a complete waste of time.

  • Proverbs 8:33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
  • 34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. God wants us to be saved from sin and be filled with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit will guide us into all wisdom and truth. He will give us understanding of the word.

  • Proverbs 8:35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

It is the only way of life. Outside of God is no life.

  • Proverbs 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

All those today that are ignoring God, denying God, not seeking God, and rebelling against God are really loving death without realizing it. Seek life, seek Christ, seek righteousness and live. You will only have just begun to live when you come to Christ. God gave His own Son as a gift to mankind. He is the word of God made flesh. He is the only source of eternal life. He is the only true wisdom that we are to seek. DC
